As a tech enthusiast who values versatility in gadgets, the Epson CO-FH02 caught my attention with its promise of being a crossover projector suitable for home, office, or education use. Priced at ₹77,599 (at the time of writing), this Full HD 1080p Smart Portable Projector is the higher-resolution sibling of the CO-W01, boasting additional smart TV features with an included Epson Android TV 10 dongle.

Before hitting the "buy" button, let's delve deeper into the CO-FH02's strengths and weaknesses to help you decide if it aligns with your needs and priorities.

Smart Features with a Quirk

The built-in smart TV functionality is a major plus, but there's a crucial drawback. The projector only has one HDMI port. This means you can either use the included streaming stick or connect another device like a gaming console, but not both at the same time. Switching between them requires removing the stick, which can be annoying.

Performance and Setup

The CO-FH02 stands out with its superior LCD technology, providing a high-quality viewing experience without the common glitches seen in other projector types. Unlike DLP (Digital Light Processing) projectors, which may have rainbow-like artifacts, LCD projectors offer a clearer and more reliable image.

The CO-FH02 LCD projector combines compact design and portability with impressive performance. Measuring 3.4 by 12.5 by 8.3 inches and weighing just 2.6 kilograms, it sets up easily and is perfect for both fixed installations and on-the-go use. With a remarkable 6,000-hour lamp life and a luminous rating of 3,000 lumens, this projector delivers bright, vivid images. It also creates an impressive 762cm (300-inch) display, allowing you to immerse yourself in your favorite games and shows.

Although LCD projectors typically deliver sharper images, the CO-FH02 projector stands out with its straightforward setup, even without optical zoom. While manual adjustment might be necessary to modify the image size, the advantages of LCD technology make it a reliable option for those prioritizing exceptional visual quality.

Additionally, the projector's H/V Keystone setting allows for correction of unevenly rectangular images, ensuring a well-defined shape on the sides.

Streaming Excellence with Epson's Bundled Stick

During my testing experience, I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the bundled streaming stick and its accompanying software in the Epson CO-FH02 projector. What sets it apart is its use of the latest Google TV software, unlike other projectors that may have outdated versions of Android TV functionality. This means I had access to the latest apps, seamless integration with the Google Play store, and the added convenience of Google Assistant support.

The streaming stick, a key component of the CO-FH02, lived up to its promise with impressive efficiency. Setting up and accessing popular streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube took just a few minutes.

Impressive Visuals

During my testing, I delved into the captivating world of Solo Leveling anime, and the CO-FH02 did not disappoint. The projector's crisp focus and vibrant color reproduction brought the anime to life, offering an immersive viewing experience.

The 1080p native resolution delivered sharp details, making text in subtitles easily readable and ensuring every frame of the anime retained its visual integrity.

Audio Accompaniment

The 5-watt onboard bass reflex mono speaker, although not exceptionally powerful, delivered sound of impressive quality, suitable for filling a midsize to large family room.

As I indulged in watching a variety of movies and shows, the audio output proved to be clear, enhancing my immersive experience and allowing me to fully engage with the unfolding storylines.

Room for Improvement

While the visual experience was delightful, it's essential to note that the Epson CO-FH02 lacks support for HDR and 4K input. This limitation might be a drawback for users who prioritize these features for a more enhanced viewing experience.

Additionally, in well-lit environments with lots of windows, the projector delivered watchable but slightly washed-out visuals during daytime use. Optimal performance was achieved in settings with controlled lighting or in complete darkness.

Should You Invest in the Epson CO-FH02?

The Epson CO-FH02 offers good value for its price, especially considering its brightness and color accuracy. However, the single HDMI port and lack of HDR/4K support are limitations to consider. If you're mainly interested in streaming or using one HDMI device, the CO-FH02 is a good option. But if you need more flexibility and want to switch easily between multiple sources, you might want to look for a projector with more HDMI ports.
