Onida Fire TV Edition First Impression: Content Discovery Made Easy

|

Earlier this week, Onida launched two new smart televisions in collaboration with Amazon under the Fire TV Edition branding. The Onida Fire TV Edition comes in 32-inch and 43-inch screen size with 720p and 1080p resolution, respectively. Soon after the launch, Amazon invited us to test out these smart televisions.

We are yet to thoroughly review these smart televisions but here is our first impression of these smart televisions from Onida and Amazon.

Design And Build Quality

Design And Build Quality

Both models of the Onida Fire TV Edition comes in plastic unibody design and a Bluetooth enabled remote that is quite reminiscent of the Fire TV Stick remote with additional hotkeys to access apps like Prime Video and Netflix.

There is nothing special about the overall build quality of these smart televisions, as they look quite similar to most of the affordable smart TVs available in India.

Software By Amazon, Hardware By Onida

The Onida FireTV Edition is nothing but a standard Onida television with a built-in Fire TV Stick. The UI is optimized in such a way that the content discovery is very easy and the same can also be done with remote as it supports voice search.

By default, it comes with apps like YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar, SonyLive TV, and a built-in web browser. Besides, one can also install apps from the app store. The brand also confirms that Apple TV+ is on its way to the Fire TV Edition.

With the minimum time that I spent with the Onida Fire TV Edition, I felt that the overall UI is well optimized. Though it is an Amazon product, it does not highlight the Prime Video and that is definitely a good thing.

Coming to the hardware, both models offer a peak brightness of 300 nits, which is a little less. Similarly, these televisions do not support HDR, which might be a dealbreaker for some.

Additional Perks

Additional Perks

The overall software experience is definitely a highlight of the Onida Fire TV Edition, compared to other budget smart televisions. If you are familiar with the Fire TV Stick UI, then you will feel at home while using the Onida's latest offering.

In the retail package, the company will include a standard stand and a VESA mount for free of cost. Additionally, the setup process after the delivery will also be taken care of by Onida. Lastly, Onida also has over 300 service centers across the country, which is a boost for the after-sale service.

Verdict

Verdict

The partnership between Onida and Amazon seems like a great deal for both companies. At the asking price, these televisions aren't that expensive as well. With the limited time that I spent with the TV, I will not be able to judge the product completely. Stay tuned for the review of the Onida Fire TV Edition.
