Kids are increasingly becoming tech-savvy these days, and manage to use your Android smartphone in better ways than you. Apart from playing game on your smartphone, toddler can access your personal file and other stuffs.
Thankfully, Google has added more parental control for its popular mobile operating system, Android, over the years. Now you can create a restricted user account for your kids that can lock access to specific apps or restrict specific websites.
The Android 4.3 brings in a restricted profile feature that can add a new user profile. Unfortunately, this feature is only available for Tablets (not smartphones) running Android 4.2 and higher. Google added this feature to turn your Android Jelly Bean tablet in to a family PC, with unique profiles for every members.
However, for Android smartphone, Google has added the user account feature on Android Lollipop, where you can create multiple-user accounts. Here we show you how to set up parental controls on your Android smartphone or tablet. Take a closer look at the slider below to know more...
If your are using Android device running Android 5.0 Lollipop, you can actually restrict your kid to use the single app which you specify. You can pin a specific app to your phone or tablet screen and your kid won't be able to leave the specific pinned app until you enter the security code.
Android Lollipop offers restricted profile, where you can create a special user account that only has limited access to specific apps and content you allow.
To create profile, go to device Settings >> User >> Add User >> Restricted Profile. Now you can lock down the profile and switch between the restricted profile and main user account from the lock screen.
Unfortunately, the restricted profile feature in the Android does not provide a way to restrict adult content from being accessed through Google Chrome and other Web browsers.
But, for web filtering, you have two option. One you can download a web filtering app from the Google Play Store. Another, if you are using Wi-Fi network, then you can configure parental controls on your router.
The Google Play Store has also its own parental control feature. To enable go to Menu button then tap on Setting and tap on Parental Control. Now, enter special parental control PIN and you can set age restrictions for what types of apps, movies, musics, videos and books to download.
Anyone using the device will not be able to purchase or download the contents that you restricted without the PIN.
The Google Play Store is flooded with hundreds of apps that can lock your apps with a special PIN or pattern. Download any App Lock to restrict other users to access the apps like mail, gallery, and other personal files in you device.
