Amazon Assured Buyback Explained: How To Claim Your Free Prime Membership and Get Resale Value
You've bought a phone on Amazon and somewhere during checkout, you ticked the Assured Buyback box. Or maybe you're thinking about it. Either way, here's what you're actually signing up for and how to use it without losing your money.
The plan is run by OneAssist, not Amazon directly. It does two things. It locks in a resale price for your phone the day you buy it, and it throws in a 6-month Amazon Prime subscription for free. The Prime voucher alone is listed at ₹449, so that part's a nice extra.

Most of the confusion isn't around buying the plan. It's around redeeming it and the conditions your phone has to meet. Let's walk through both.
What You're Actually Getting
You can claim the buyback value any time within 12 months from your invoice date. The promotional material lists two tenure slabs:
- 1 to 180 days: 70% of invoice value
- 181 to 365 days: 60% of invoice value
That's the top end. The T&Cs say the value depends on your phone passing OneAssist's quality check, which is stricter than most people assume. More on that below.

You can also enrol in the plan up to 7 days after buying your phone, not just at checkout. So if you missed it during the purchase flow, you've still got a small window.
The 15-Day Cancellation Window
Here's something worth knowing. You can cancel within 15 days of buying the plan and get a full refund. But only if you haven't already raised a claim or started the buyback redemption. Once you've done either of those, the refund's gone.
OneAssist can also cancel your plan if you don't submit the required device info and images within 15 days of purchase. So don't sit on the onboarding.
How to Claim Your Free 6-Month Prime Voucher
This is the easy part:
- Download the OneAssist app and log in.
- Tap Account at the bottom right, then My Memberships.
- Tap View Details, then Avail 3rd Party Vouchers at the top right.
- Pick the voucher and tap Claim Voucher.
- Copy the code and follow the prompts to activate Prime.
Once activated, your 6 months starts. Do this soon after you receive the phone so you don't forget.
How to Redeem the Buyback Value
Redemption only happens through the OneAssist app. Here's the flow:
- Log in with your registered mobile number.
- Go to membership details and run the Mobile Health Check (MHC) on your phone.
- If MHC passes, answer a few additional questions to get your applicable buyback value.
- Upload the requested images, video, and your original invoice.
- You've got 7 days to log back in and finish the redemption process.
- Once verified, the buyback amount gets credited to your account.
If your MHC fails, the redemption stops there.
The Conditions Your Phone Has to Meet (This Is Where Most People Get Caught)
This is the section nobody reads, and it's where the 70% number gets cut down or denied entirely. OneAssist's quality check has four buckets:
Internal condition
- Phone has to switch on and connect to a network
- Must pass every Mobile Health Check test in the app
- Battery can't be swollen
- No missing parts or components
External condition
- No cracks, scratches, or dents on the body
- No body bend, bulge, or warping
- No screen cracks, scratches, or dead pixels
- No touchscreen issues or discolouration
- All buttons, panels, and parts present
- Minor scratches and dents can still trigger a re-evaluation at OneAssist's discretion
No unauthorised modifications
- Phone can't be rooted, cloned, or software-hacked
- No water damage
- No repairs from unauthorised service centres
- IMEI (dial *#06#) must match what you registered
- Brand, model, and variant must match the plan
Original accessories
- Original invoice
- Original brand box
- Original charger, earphones, and anything else that came in the box, all in working condition
If your phone doesn't meet all of this, you don't automatically get rejected. OneAssist will re-evaluate and offer a revised value, which you can accept or decline.
Where the Plan Works
The T&Cs say this is available in "select serviceable areas" only. The document doesn't list the cities, so check the OneAssist app for whether your pincode is covered before you commit.
The plan is also non-transferable. It only applies to the phone you bought it for, on Amazon India.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- The 70% figure is the ceiling, not the default. Treat it as best-case.
- Don't toss the box, charger, or earphones. They're part of the eligibility check.
- The 15-day cancellation window is real but conditional. Don't start a claim or redemption if you might want a refund.
- The 7-day MHC window only kicks in once you start redemption, so don't begin the process unless you've got time that week to finish uploads.
This plan really only makes sense if you upgrade roughly every year. If you tend to keep phones for two or three years, the buyback window will have closed before you'd have used it, and you'd likely get more by selling on Cashify or a resale platform yourself.
