How To Try On Clothes Virtually With Google’s New AI Shopping Feature
Shopping for clothes online usually comes with one big question: Will this actually look good on me? Google is trying to make that guesswork easier with its new Virtual Apparel Try-On tool, now available to shoppers in India. The feature lets you try on tops, dresses, jackets, bottoms, and even shoes, all from a single photo of yourself.

It’s powered by Google’s AI fashion model, which understands body shapes, fabrics, folds, and how different materials sit on various silhouettes. The result feels closer to a real fitting room, just without the walk to the mall.
Here’s a simple guide to help you use it.
Step 1: Look For The “Try It On” Icon
The feature is built right into Google’s shopping results. When you search for clothing items, you’ll notice a “try it on” icon on supported product listings. This icon appears on billions of apparel items from different brands and stores.
If you don’t see the icon on a particular listing, that item hasn’t been enabled for virtual try-on yet.
Step 2: Upload A Photo Of Yourself
Once you tap the “try it on” icon, Google will ask you to upload a clear photo. It works best if:
- Your face and upper body are visible
- The lighting is decent
- You’re facing the camera directly
You don’t need a professional photo. A regular phone picture is enough.
The AI model then uses that single image to map how the clothing fits, stretches, folds, and drapes on your body.
Step 3: Preview How The Clothing Looks On You
After the upload, Google generates a virtual try-on that shows how the selected outfit fits your frame. You can switch between:
- Tops
- Dresses
- Jackets
- Bottoms
- Shoes
The tool tries to stay true to real materials, so denim, silk, cotton, or knitwear should appear with their natural drape and shape.
You can zoom in, change angles, and try different sizes or colors when available.
Step 4: Experiment With More Styles
You’re not limited to one item. You can keep tapping different listings with the “try it on” icon to see how they look on you. It’s an easy way to explore new styles without physically trying anything on.
If you’re shopping for a festive outfit or building a new wardrobe, this tool saves a lot of back-and-forth guessing.
Step 5: Share Your Looks With Friends
Google lets you save or share the virtual try-on images directly. You can send them to friends, ask for opinions, or simply save them for later. It’s handy when you’re debating between two outfits or mixing and matching colors.
Step 6: Continue Shopping Like Normal
Once you’ve found something that looks right, you can go ahead and shop through the regular product page. The try-on tool is just there to help you visualize the fit before making a decision.
