You Can Now Upload Videos to Google Gemini for AI-Powered Answers: Here’s How To Use It

Google is expanding the way we interact with its AI assistant. As of June 2025, users of Gemini—Google’s AI-powered chatbot—can now upload videos directly through the app or web interface. It’s a meaningful step forward for a tool that began with simple text prompts and image analysis but is now heading into richer, more dynamic territory.

The new feature is available across Android, iOS, and the web, giving both free and paid users access to a wider spectrum of AI-powered experiences.

AI That Sees—and Now Watches

Until now, Gemini has primarily handled queries via text, photos, and web links. The assistant could analyze an image of a plant, break down a complicated email, or summarize a web article.

But video brings a richer layer of context: movement, sound, sequencing—things that are hard to capture with words or pictures alone.

With this update, you can upload a video and ask questions like:

“What species is this bird?”

“Can you explain this dance move?”

“What is the person in this video doing?”

Gemini can analyze the visual flow, audio cues, and context within the clip to give meaningful responses.

How to Upload a Video to Gemini

The process is straightforward. When you’re in the Gemini interface—on mobile or desktop—you’ll now see a “+” icon next to the input bar. Tapping or clicking this lets you choose a video from your gallery or file system. After uploading, you can ask Gemini any question related to the clip.

This works much like how you currently upload images. The difference, of course, is that video allows for movement, sound, and greater context, opening up new ways of interacting with AI beyond static visuals.

However, the in-app camera does not yet support direct video recording within Gemini itself. For now, users need to record separately and then upload the file.

Still Rolling Out, But Coming to Everyone

Although the feature has officially launched, some users may not see it immediately due to staggered rollout across regions. If you don’t yet have access to video uploads, you can expect to see the feature appear in the coming days.

Once it does, you’ll find the upload button in the same place you’d normally add an image.
