How to Access Your Android Phone Through Windows 11's File Explorer
Microsoft has introduced a new feature for Windows 11 File Explorer, now available through its Insider Channels, that allows users to connect their Android smartphones wirelessly and view their files directly in File Explorer.
This development builds on the existing Link to Windows app, enhancing the integration between Windows PCs and Android devices.
Windows 11 File Explorer Update
The latest update allows users with Android smartphones to browse, open, rename, and delete files directly from their PC's File Explorer. This feature also supports transferring files between the PC and the smartphone. However, it is currently accessible only to those enrolled in the Windows Insider Program.
Prerequisites for Using the New Feature
To utilize this feature, users need to meet several requirements:
- Android Version: Your smartphone must run Android 11.0 or higher.
- Link to Windows App: Ensure you have the beta version of the Link to Windows app installed on your phone, specifically version 1.24071 or later.
- Windows Insider Program: Your PC must be registered with the Windows Insider Program and running Windows 11.
- Insider Channel: You must be subscribed to one of the four Windows 11 Insider channels.
How to Set Up and Use the Feature
Follow these steps to connect your Android smartphone to your Windows 11 PC:

- Connect Your Device: Make sure both your PC and Android smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Settings on Your PC: Go to Settings and navigate to the Bluetooth & devices tab.
- Select Mobile Devices: Choose Mobile Devices and grant permission for your PC to access your Android smartphone.
- Enable Visibility: Look for a toggle option to enable your smartphone's visibility in File Explorer. Turn this toggle on to access your phone's files.

Troubleshooting and Known Issues
While the feature is designed to enhance user experience, it is still in testing, and some users may encounter issues:
Syncing Problems: Files may not sync properly between your phone and PC.
Automatic Deletion Issues: The automatic file deletion feature might not function as expected.
If you do not see the option to enable smartphone visibility in File Explorer, it is possible that the feature has not yet rolled out to your device. Microsoft continues to refine the feature, and users should expect improvements over time.
