How To Read, Translate, and Use Spotify Lyrics Offline: Step-by-Step Guide
Spotify has quietly rolled out a set of lyric-focused updates that make it easier to follow songs, especially when you’re offline or listening to music in a different language. There’s no learning curve here, but knowing where to tap makes a difference.

Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s new and how to use each feature.
How To Use Lyrics Offline on Spotify
If you already download songs for offline listening, this update works almost invisibly in the background.
Once you download a song or playlist, Spotify now saves the lyrics along with the audio. There’s nothing extra you need to enable.
To check offline lyrics:
- Download a song or playlist as you normally would
- Turn off mobile data or Wi-Fi
- Open the downloaded track
- Swipe up or tap the lyrics section to view synced lyrics offline
This feature is limited to Premium users. It’s especially useful if you commute underground, travel often, or deal with patchy internet. Offline music isn’t new, but offline lyrics are still rare across streaming apps, which makes this more practical than it sounds.
How To Use the New Lyric Preview Layout
Spotify is also changing how lyrics appear while a song is playing. Instead of being hidden behind a swipe, short lyric previews now show up directly under the album artwork or Canvas.
Here’s how it works:
- Play a supported song on your phone or tablet
- You’ll see lyrics appear below the album art automatically
- Tap the preview to open the full lyrics view
If you don’t like lyrics popping up by default, you can turn them off:
- Tap the three-dot menu on the Now Playing screen
- Select “Lyrics Off”
This new layout is rolling out to both Free and Premium users on Android and iOS. It makes lyrics feel more like part of the listening experience rather than a separate feature you have to look for.
How To Translate Lyrics on Spotify
Spotify has also expanded lyric translations worldwide, which helps if you listen to music in languages you don’t understand.
To translate lyrics:
- Play a song that has lyrics available
- Tap the lyrics card on the Now Playing screen
- Tap the translate icon
- Lyrics will appear in your device’s default language
You can switch back to the original lyrics at any time using the same icon.
This works automatically based on your phone’s language settings. The feature is available on both Free and Premium plans, as long as translations exist for that song. If the track is downloaded, translated lyrics can be accessed offline as well.
