Forget Debit Cards! Here’s How to Set Up Your UPI PIN With Aadhaar
India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has made digital transactions incredibly seamless. From paying at local shops to transferring money instantly, UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM have become a part of daily life.
Traditionally, setting up a UPI PIN required a debit card, making it difficult for those who didn't have one to access digital payments. Now, there's a more convenient way-using your Aadhaar card to set up a UPI PIN. If your bank account is linked to Aadhaar, you can generate a UPI PIN in just a few steps without needing a debit card.

How to Set Up a UPI PIN Using Aadhaar
Setting up your UPI PIN with Aadhaar is simple and works across all major UPI apps. Here's how you can do it:
1. Open Your UPI App
Launch your preferred UPI app, whether it's Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM.
2. Add Your Bank Account
Go to the "Add Bank Account" section and select the bank account you want to link with UPI. Ensure that your mobile number registered with your bank is the same one linked to Aadhaar.
3. Choose the Aadhaar OTP Option
When prompted to set up a UPI PIN, you will see an option for "Aadhaar OTP" in addition to the traditional debit card option. Select the Aadhaar OTP method.
4. Enter Your Aadhaar Number
Input your 12-digit Aadhaar number. This will trigger an OTP that will be sent to your registered mobile number.
5. Verify with OTP
Enter the OTP received via SMS to verify your Aadhaar details.
6. Set Your UPI PIN
After verification, you will be asked to create a 4 or 6-digit UPI PIN. Choose a secure PIN, confirm it, and complete the setup.
Once done, your Aadhaar-linked bank account will be fully functional for UPI transactions, allowing you to send and receive money, make QR code payments, and pay bills-all without needing a debit card.
