How to Stop Others from Downloading Your Instagram Reels

Instagram Reels has gained huge popularity among youngsters, which is one of the most engaging features of the social media platform. With the ability to record and edit videos up to 3 minutes long, Reels provide a dynamic way to express creativity. However, content creators might be concerned about the unauthorized copying or downloading of their original works.

Even though Instagram itself doesn't provide a direct feature to download Reels to a device, there are numerous third-party apps and websites designed to download Instagram Reels. If you are the one who doesn't want your Reels downloaded by others, Instagram has an in-built feature which prevents others from downloading your Reels. Here's how it works.

How to Stop Downloading Your Instagram Reels

If you have a public account, anyone can download and share your reels from your account unless you change your reels download settings. Here's how to disable it:

Step 1: First, start by recording and editing your reel, then tap Next in the bottom right.

Step 2: Now, you'll find Tap More options at the bottom.

Step 3: Scroll down, and you'll see an option called ''Allow people to download your reels'' and toggle it off.

Step 4: Now, you can tap in the top left to go back, then tap Share at the bottom.

It's also worth noting that no one on Instagram can download your reels if you have a private account unless you change to public. Moreover, the downloaded reels will have an Instagram watermark, username and audio attribution. Downloaded reels aren't allowed to be used for commercial purposes.

Notably, for Instagram users under 18 with public accounts, the default setting for downloading reels will be off but can be turned on at any time.
