Instagram Adds A Simple Way To Fix And Reset Your Reels Recommendations: How To Use It

Instagram has introduced a new feature called “Your Algorithm,” which gives you a clearer look at why certain Reels appear on your feed and lets you adjust those recommendations instantly.

If your Reels tab feels unpredictable or overloaded with topics you don’t care about, this tool gives you more say in what shows up.

Here’s a simple walkthrough.

Step 1: Open Reels And Tap The Icon

Go to the Reels tab on Instagram.

In the upper-right corner, you’ll see a new icon with two lines and hearts.

Tap that icon to open the Your Algorithm menu.

Step 2: See What Instagram Thinks You Like

The first thing you’ll notice is a list of your “top interests.”

These are the topics Instagram believes you engage with the most based on your scrolling and viewing habits.

Some of it may feel accurate. Some of it may feel completely random. Either way, it shows what the app is using to shape your feed.

Step 3: Adjust What You Want More Or Less Of

This is the part that actually changes your recommendations.

You’ll see different topics, and you can select the ones you want to see more or less often.

If you want fewer gym reels, tap to reduce them.
If you want more travel or cooking content, increase those categories.

Your feed updates based on these signals instead of waiting weeks for your behaviour to slowly retrain the algorithm.

Step 4: Share Your Algorithm (Optional)

Instagram added a social twist here.

You can share a snapshot of your interest list to your Stories, which lets friends see what topics define your feed.

This step is optional, but it’s an easy way to compare feeds or laugh at the unexpected categories the app thinks you love.

For now, Your Algorithm works only on Reels.

Instagram says similar controls are coming to Explore and other parts of the app, so this is just the first phase of giving users more direct input.

The feature is available in the US today and will roll out globally in English soon.
