Nothing Phone 2 Receives Android 15 Beta: Here's How to Download and Install it

The Nothing Phone 2 was unveiled last year with Android 13, but recently received the beta version of Android 15. The UK startup, led by OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei, released this early build to testers this week. The company warns that some features from the stable version of Nothing OS are currently unavailable.

The beta version of Android 15 is available as an over-the-air (OTA) update, eliminating the need for a computer connection. However, users should note that reverting to Android 14 will wipe all data, so backing up is essential.

Install Android 15 Beta On Nothing Phone 2

How to Download the Android 15 Beta

To install the Android 15 beta, users must download one of two beta update packages from the company's website and save it to the phone's built-in storage. Create a folder named "ota" in the storage and follow these steps:

  • Copy the update package to the "ota" folder.
  • Open the dialer app and type *#*#682#*#*.
  • Tap the reload button to update the list in the local update tool.
  • Select the beta update package from the list.
  • Tap "Directly apply OTA from select" and then "OK" to start the installation.
  • Wait for the update to install before exiting the local update tool.
  • Tap on "Confirm" to reboot the phone into the new beta version.

Issues with the Beta Version

There are a few known issues with the Android 15 beta build. Users cannot enrol fingerprints or use the face unlock feature. Additionally, widgets and preinstalled apps like Nothing X, Weather, Launcher, and Recorder are unavailable. Advanced users and developers should consider these limitations before installing the beta on their primary device.

Battery Life and Other Improvements

A report suggests that Android 15 may boost device battery life by up to 3 hours. This and other enhancements, such as improved video stabilisation in third-party camera apps and better data protection during screen sharing, make the update promising.

Nothing Phone 2 owners need to ensure their device is running Nothing OS 2.5.5 before updating to the beta version. Additionally, the Nothing Phone 2 Android 15 Beta update can be reversed and users can go back to Android 14, although the process will require you to wipe the phone's data.
