Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL Owners Can Claim Free Screen Repair: Who’s Eligible and What You Get
Google has rolled out a special repair program for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL after identifying a display defect in a limited batch of units. Some users started reporting a vertical line running down their screen or occasional flickering on the Pixel 9 Pro, and Google eventually acknowledged the pattern.

If you own one of these phones and have been noticing something off with your display, here’s a clear guide to help you figure out whether you’re eligible and how to get your repair started.
What Issues Are Covered
Google is addressing two very specific symptoms:
- A vertical line that appears from the top of the screen to the bottom
- Display flickering on Pixel 9 Pro units
If your phone matches either of these, there’s a good chance it qualifies.
The program will not cover devices with physical or water damage. That includes:
- Cracked or chipped displays
- Broken cover glass
- Liquid intrusion or corrosion
In those cases, Google may still repair the phone, but it won’t fall under the free program.
Confirming Your Device Model
The program applies only to:
- Pixel 9 Pro
- Pixel 9 Pro XL
Pixel 9 Pro Fold users might also be eligible if they’re seeing the same issue, but the company is handling those cases individually. To confirm your model, go to Settings > About phone > Model.
How To Start The Repair
Google opened the repair window on December 8, 2025. You can begin the process through:
- A Google walk-in service center
- An authorized repair partner
- The online repair portal at store.google.com/repair
Your phone will be inspected first. If it qualifies, the display replacement is free, and the repaired device gets a 90-day warranty in line with local consumer laws.
Preparing Your Phone Before You Hand It Over
Google recommends a bit of prep so you don’t lose data or run into delays:
- Back up your phone: Settings > System > Backup
- Turn on Repair Mode to protect your information
- Carry your proof of purchase, as it may be required
It’s a small checklist, but it makes the repair process much smoother.
What About Your Standard Warranty?
This extended repair program doesn’t replace your regular warranty. It simply adds a safety net for this particular defect. If you already paid for a qualifying repair earlier, Google says eligible customers will be contacted.
