If you are having a problem with running your computer, you should check your computer's RAM for issues. Usually, a problem in RAM can create problems in your computer. The good thing is, you don’t need to get an extra tool for testing RAM issues on your PC.

You can use tools already present in your Windows to have a quick check of your RAM. The Windows Memory Diagnostic can be used for checking issues in your RAM.

 

How to run the Windows Memory Diagnostic?

Windows Memory Diagnostic is the inbuilt feature present in the computer to check issues on your computer. You can follow the steps given below to run the Windows Memory Diagnostic for monitoring the status of your RAM.

Step 1: Open the start menu and type “Windows Memory Diagnostic” in the search bar and press Enter. An alternative way of opening Windows Memory Diagnostic is to press “Windows Key” and “R.” This will open the Run dialog. Now type, “mdsched.exe” and hit enter.

Step 2: This will open the “Windows Memory Diagnostic” window. Now tap on “Restart now and check for problems (recommended).” Clicking on this will reboot your computer. Please note that you will not be able to use your computer while the test is going on.

Once, your computer reboots the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool will appear on your screen. It will automatically start the examination process. This may take few minutes. When the test is going on, you can check the progress of it in the progress bar. Also, the “Status” message in the Windows will let you know if any problem is detected on the RAM of your PC.

You don’t need to sit in from your computer for the entire time when the test is going on. You can return after taking a break. Once the analysis is complete, the PC will reboot itself. You need to log in to your PC, and the result of the test will appear on your screen.

If the result doesn’t appear on your screen automatically, open Event Viewer in Windows. And then navigate to “Windows Logs” and click on “System.” Now in the “Find” panel search for “MemoryDiagnostic.” You will now be able to view the test result.
