How to mute sites with autoplaying videos
It could be annoying and embarrassing if suddenly your speakers blare. Usually, pop-up ads appear on the screen and when you accidentally run your mouse over such an ad, it bursts into life. Also, in many cases, autoplay videos will appear once you scroll down the page. There is a way to put an end to the same. You can get to know that from below.
Chrome
Silent Site Sound Blocker is an extension tool, once installed, will mute all tabs automatically.
You can whitelist or blacklist sites from the context menu that will pop up once you right-click the extension. You can also click on ‘Allow this time only' to temporarily unmute sites.
Once a new site is accessed, the following pop up will appear which gives you four options to choose from:
a) Always Allow (Whitelist Site)
b) Allow once (Prompt Again)
c) Reject Once (Prompt Again)
d) Never Allow (Blacklist Site)
The tool also has several modes available:
a) Allow whitelisted only
b) Allow blacklisted only
c) Silence all sites
d) Allow all sites
Firefox
The Firefox add-on ‘Mute Sites by Default' automatically mutes all sites.
But it has the tool which fulfils the function you sought the tool for in the first place, the option to whitelist the sites that you want to.
After locating ‘Mute Sites by Default' on your Extensions, click options and you can enter whitelisted sites one by one.
Safari
If you are running OS X EI Capitan, this option is available as a native feature. Clicking the blue speaker icon in the address bar when you open a new tab will automatically mute all sites.
And clicking on it again will unmute the sites.

Opera
You can mute the sound in all open tabs by right-clicking on a tab and clicking ‘Mute other tabs.'
Tabs can be unmuted selectively or you can also unmute them all by going to the original tab and right-clicking on it to access Unmute other tabs.
This feature is far from perfect as every tab that you open after you perform the mute action will not be muted, you will have to perform the action every single time you open another tab.
You will have to repeat the action every time you restart Opera as well.
Microsoft Edge
Windows 10 users have no option available in Edge to mute tabs. However, a free app called ‘Ear Trumpet' will help you achieve the same.
Opening the app will result in it popping up in the system tray, you can observe the volume controls of all of your programs by clicking on the ‘Ear Trumpet' icon. You can vary the volume of any app that you use over here, including Microsoft Edge.
On the downside, you do not have the option of selecting or deselecting the tabs which you do not want to listen to.
