How to set a timer or stopwatch through Google homepage
One of the several things Google can be used for is to set timers through its homepage itself.
We’re accustomed to setting alarms on phones, and do so even when we work on laptops or desktops. One of the several things Google can be used for is to set timers through its homepage itself. Be it for studies, exercise, working, or even cooking, using this feature, one can avoid several distractions that come with the phone and continue their work unabated.
Google lets you do this either through the address bar in Chrome or by opening the homepage itself and using its search box. Given below are the steps that help you countdown with a timer, or run ahead using a stopwatch. Read on to know more.
Setting a timer
Whether chasing a deadline, or setting a personal goal, if you ensure a running timer in the background, you can focus better on the task at hand. It lets you measure your performance, thereby forcing you to improve each time. It can also be a replacement if you can’t find your phone. You can do this by keying in the words “Set a timer” in Chrome’ address bar or the Google search box.
Once you hit enter, you will see a timer with Start and Reset options. Choose the duration you want and click on Start. Once you see it count down, toggle between the Stop and Reset buttons as per your want.
A faster method would be to type “Set a timer for xyz minutes,” either in the address bar or the homepage, and Google immediately starts the countdown. This lets you skip the intermediate steps.
Setting a Stopwatch
It’s known that measuring the duration of any process is a good way to improve productivity. As the age of physical devices is slipping away, fewer stopwatches are in use and are being incorporated into household gadgets. Google offers such services if you’re someone who works mostly on a desktop PC or a laptop. Follow these simple steps to start a stopwatch within Google.
As explained above, type “Start a stopwatch,” either in the address bar or in the Google search box. Let it run for as long as you want. Toggle the buttons Start, Stop and Reset as per your requirement. The stopwatch is found right next to the timer tab.

These services are only available as long there’s an internet connection. They don’t work offline. If being online distracts you, a simple trick is to maximize the timer or stopwatch to full screen and switch back to your work. This doesn’t guarantee greater productivity, but it might push you to accelerate your work.
Happy working.
