How to check if a Wi-Fi network is fast or slow with Android 8.1 Oreo
Google has started rolling out some good and useful feature in the Android 8.1 Oreo update, that display the speed of nearby open Wi-Fi networks before connecting to it. With this update, the Wi-Fi settings will now display one of the four-speed labels: Very Fast, Fast, OK, or Slow. The private Wi-Fi networks that require passwords don’t display any speed but continue to indicate signal strength.
This speed of nearby open Wi-Fi is found out by relying on the Usage & Diagnostics sharing feature to crowdsource this data. Once you connect the phone to the network, the speed of this network is shared with Google. Thus, the Network Rating feature is able to reliably tell you how good a network. In this article, we will guide on how to check if a Wi-Fi network is fast or slow with Android Oreo?
Step 1: Open your device's Settings app
Step 2: Tap Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi -> Turn on the toggle
Step 3: Now you will see the listed network on the menu
Step 4: From the listed networks, pick one that can do what you need.
Step 5: In general, the signal strength will be shown through an icon, where a fuller icon means a stronger signal.
As we mentioned above, the Speed will be shown in four types with respect to signal strength.
Slow: You can send and receive emails and texts. Images appear slowly.
OK: You can read webpages, use social media, and stream music and standard-definition (SD) videos.
Fast: You can stream most high-definition (HD) videos and make video calls.
Very Fast: You can stream very high-quality videos.
If you don't want to see network speed, open your device's Settings -> Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi -> Wi-Fi Preferences -> Advanced -> Network rating provider -> None.
