How to install Android P Beta on your smartphone
Android P Beta is available for a slew of devices. Get to know how to install it on your device.
Google announced the Android P at the Google I/O 2018 conference on Tuesday. The first public beta build of this iteration of the OS is already available. Unlike the previous iterations, this one will be available for both the Pixel and select non-Pixel devices as well. This is possible with the support for Project Treble.
The platform comes with several improvements and design changes. It focuses largely on AI and adds support for the display notch, which is a trend being embraced by the Android manufacturers. We have already come up with the Android P features and enhancements. Today, we have come up with the steps involved in installing this update on eligible devices.
Supported devices
As mentioned above, the latest iteration of the OS is available for the Pixel devices such as Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. It is also supported by non-Pixel devices including OnePlus 6, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Nokia 7 Plus, Oppo R15 Pro, Vivo X21, Vivo X21 UD, Essential PH-1 and Sony Xperia XZ2.
How to get Android P Beta
Follow these steps to install the latest update on your smartphone, provided it is eligible to receive the update.
Step 1: If you own any of the devices mentioned above, visit android.com/beta on your PC or mobile browser.
Step 2: Sign in with your Google ID, which you have used to login to the smartphone you are intending to update.
Step 3: After signing in, you will be able to see your compatible device mentioned with a button stating "opt in". You need to click on this button.
Step 4: Once you get the confirmation of the Android P Beta program, you need to wait for some time. Then, head to Settings → System → Advanced → System Update. If the latest iteration of Android is available, then just hit download and reboot the device. This update will measure around 1.2GB in size.
After the installation, the device will run the Android P Beta version. If you have already installed the Developer Preview 1 rolled out in March, then you can sign up for the Beta version using the procedure detailed above. Notably, the update can also be flashed manually using factory images but the same is yet to released by Google.
