How to Invite People Without a WhatsApp Account to Calls

Want to make a WhatsApp call with someone who does not use the messaging app? For the longest time, this was thought to be impossible. But now, that is not the case. WhatsApp has introduced guest calling, which lets users invite people to voice and video calls through a link. This means you can connect with friends, colleagues or classmates even if they use a different platform to stay in touch. So how can you do this? Read on.

How to create a WhatsApp call link and invite guests

First of all, you will need an active WhatsApp account to create and share a call link. The person you invite, as mentioned already, does not need an account to join.

Now to get started, all you need to do is open WhatsApp and head to the Calls tab. Next, tap the + icon and select the option to create a call link. Once the link is ready, share it with the person you want to speak to.

The guest can open the link in a browser on their computer and enter their name to request access. They will be placed in a waiting room until you approve their entry. Once you let them in, they can join the conversation.

WhatsApp, in a blog post, mentioned that it supports both individual and group calls through guest links, with up to 32 participants. This could come in handy when you need to speak to someone who does not use WhatsApp or want to organise a group discussion without asking everyone to install the app.

Also, it is worth mentioning that just because someone is on a guest account, they aren't limited to listening. They can also share their computer screen, react with emojis such as a thumbs-up or heart, and raise their hand when they want to speak. These features could be useful for online classes, presentations and work discussions.

WhatsApp has also added controls to help hosts manage guest access. Every guest needs the host's approval before entering a call, and the host can remove them at any time. Guests cannot see other participants' phone numbers, send WhatsApp messages or directly invite additional people to the call.

What's next

WhatsApp is also working on calendar integrations that will let users create call links directly from Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar. The company says these integrations are expected to roll out later in 2026.

Once available, users will be able to install the WhatsApp plugin, connect their account and add a call link to a calendar invitation. People invited to the meeting will then be able to join with or without a WhatsApp account.

For now, guest calling makes it easier to bring people into WhatsApp conversations without requiring them to sign up for the service. The planned calendar integrations could make scheduling these calls more convenient, particularly for work meetings and group discussions.

What do you think of this new feature and who are you calling first? Let us know and keep watching this space for more such updates.
