Tired of Your Threads Feed? The New “Dear Algo” Feature Lets You Fix It by Just Talking: Here's How

Threads has added a new feature that lets you directly tell the app what you want to see more or less of, without changing long-term settings or unfollowing people. It’s called Dear Algo, and it’s designed for moments when your interests shift quickly.

You Can Now Tell Threads What to Show You: Here's How

Think of it as a short note to the algorithm rather than a permanent rewrite of your feed.

What Is Dear Algo on Threads?

Dear Algo is an AI-powered feature that temporarily adjusts your Threads feed based on a simple request you post publicly. Instead of relying only on past activity, Threads lets you spell out what matters to you right now.

You Can Now Tell Threads What to Show You: Here's How

The change lasts for three days, after which your feed slowly returns to its usual mix.

How to Use Dear Algo on Threads

Using Dear Algo is intentionally simple. There’s no new toggle or hidden menu.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Open Threads and create a new public post
  2. Start the post with the words “Dear Algo”
  3. Add what you want to see more or less of

For example:

  • “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts”
  • “Dear Algo, show me less about this TV show for now”

Once you post it, Threads starts adjusting your feed almost immediately.

How Long Does Dear Algo Change Your Feed?

Dear Algo isn’t permanent. Once you make a request, Threads applies it for the next three days. After that, your feed gradually goes back to normal without you needing to do anything.

This makes the feature useful for short-term situations, like live sports events, breaking news, or avoiding spoilers for a few days.

You Can Copy Someone Else’s Preferences Too

One useful twist is that you don’t always have to write your own Dear Algo post. Threads lets you repost someone else’s Dear Algo request, which applies their content preferences to your feed.

That can be handy if you follow someone who curates their feed well or if you want to quickly tap into a specific topic without thinking too much about how to phrase your request.

When Dear Algo Makes the Most Sense

Dear Algo works best when your interests change temporarily. For example:

  • Following live sports or a major event
  • Diving into a new topic for a few days
  • Muting a trend or show you haven’t caught up on yet

It’s not meant to replace who you follow or what you engage with long term. It’s more about quick control without commitment.

Where Dear Algo Is Available Right Now

Meta says Dear Algo is currently available in the US, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. The company plans to expand the feature to more regions, though there’s no timeline yet.
