Upgrading an Old Appliance? This Might Be the Simplest Way to Swap and Recycle It
Upgrading a large home appliance usually comes with an annoying question. What do you do with the old one?

Lloyd is trying to simplify that process with its new Eco Exchange Program, launched in partnership with Selsmart, Attero’s consumer recycling platform. The idea is straightforward: exchange your old appliance, get its value adjusted against a new Lloyd product, and make sure the old unit is recycled properly instead of being dumped or forgotten.
Here’s how the program works in practice.
Step 1: Bring Your Old Appliance to the Store
The Eco Exchange Program is available at select Lloyd and Havells brand stores. You can bring in an old appliance when you’re planning to buy a new one. The old unit doesn’t have to be from Lloyd. Appliances from other brands are accepted as well, which removes a common limitation with exchange offers.
Eligible products include air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, and televisions. Even older formats like CRT TVs are covered.
Step 2: Get an Instant Value Assessment
Once you bring in the appliance, it’s assessed on the spot. The store provides an instant exchange value based on factors like category, condition, and age. There’s no need to arrange separate pickups or negotiate with scrap dealers.
That assessed value is then applied directly to your new purchase.
Step 3: Upgrade to a New Appliance
You can use the exchange value immediately while buying a new Lloyd product. This reduces the upfront cost and also removes the hassle of figuring out disposal later. The program bundles upgrading and disposal into a single step, which is where it becomes genuinely convenient.
Step 4: Responsible Recycling Happens in the Background
After collection, the old appliance is handed over to Selsmart and routed through Attero’s recycling network. The appliances are dismantled and processed in compliance with e-waste norms, with materials recovered rather than sent to landfills.
For users, this part happens entirely in the background. You don’t have to track pickups or certificates separately.
Why This Matters More Than It Used To
Large appliances contribute significantly to e-waste, yet they’re among the hardest items for households to deal with responsibly. Exchange programs like these move recycling closer to the point of sale, instead of expecting users to figure it out later.
