Struggling With Words? WhatsApp’s New AI Can Help You Write — Here’s How to Use It

WhatsApp has rolled out a new AI-powered tool called Writing Help. It’s designed for those moments when you know what you want to say but can’t figure out the right words. Whether you’re aiming for a professional tone, something lighthearted, or a supportive message, this feature can suggest drafts that you can send as-is or edit further.

Struggling With Words? WhatsApp’s New AI Can Help You Write

Step 1: Look for the Pencil Icon

Once the feature becomes available in your app, you’ll see a new pencil icon while typing in both one-on-one and group chats. That’s the entry point for Writing Help. Tap it whenever you want the AI to step in with suggestions.

Step 2: Draft Your Message

Start typing the rough version of what you want to say. It doesn’t need to be polished. Think of it like giving the AI a starting point. The tool will use your draft to create rewritten versions that better fit your intent.

Step 3: Pick a Tone

One of the most useful parts of Writing Help is tone selection. You can choose from options like professional, funny, or supportive. For example, if you’re texting a colleague, you might pick professional. If you’re chatting with a close friend, funny might fit better.

Step 4: Review and Edit

The AI will generate a few suggestions. At this stage, you can either send the one that works best or tweak it further before hitting send. Nothing is locked in — it’s there to help, not replace your own voice.

Keep Privacy in Mind

A big question around AI in messaging apps is privacy. WhatsApp says Writing Help is powered by its Private Processing technology. That means your drafts and the AI suggestions aren’t being read by Meta or WhatsApp. The processing happens in a way that keeps your messages private, similar to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute model.

So while the AI is helping you, your personal conversations remain between you and the people you’re messaging.

Availability

At launch, Writing Help is only available in English and is rolling out in the United States and a few other regions. WhatsApp says more languages and countries will get it later this year, so if you don’t see it yet, it’s a matter of waiting for the update.
