10 Key Differences between Microsoft Surface Book and Apple MacBook Pro!


Dubbed as Surface Book, the bigger sibling of the Surface Pro 4 comes with the so-called dockable keyboard. In fact, it can even be folded with the keyboard on - just like every other laptop out there. Rather it would be wise to refer to the Surface Book as a convertible which can always be docked out from the keyboard to be used a stand alone tablet.

However, like many other convertible in the market, the Microsoft Surface Book isn't dearth of power.

Apparently Microsoft took at dig, at Apple at the event by stating that their Surface Book is twice as faster than Mac Book Pro. But can it outperform the Apple in all department? If so the Redmond giant has a real winner in hand!

Sharper 13 inch Display

The Surface Pro Book features a 13 inch display touring 6 million pixels and 267ppi, as compared to the 227ppi 13 inch display of the MacBook Pro.

Twice the RAM - 16GB

The 13 inch variant of the Apple MacBook features a 8GB of DDR3 RAM as compared to the 16GB DDR3 found in the Surface Book.

1TB of Storage

1TB of Storage

The Surface Book may not be using an SSD but it comes with 1TB of HDD as compared to the 512GB found in the MacBook Pro.

Far superior Nvidia GDDR5 GPU

The weakest area of the MacBook Pro is the GPU department. It utilizes an Intel Iris 6100 Graphics. Intel had never been a market leader when it comes to GPU, and hence it isn't surprising to hear that the Surface Book has far superior unit inside in the form of the Nvidia GeForce GDDR5.

12 hours of Battery Life

Inspite of using a Intel i5/i7 with the company's latest SkyLake Technology, the Surface Book will supposedly deliver 12 hours of Battery Life (according to Microsoft). This is a solid 2 hours more than the one quoted by Apple for their MacBook Pro.

GlassTrackPad vs Force Touch

The Surface Book utilizes a large Glass TrackPad - Microsoft is rather proud regarding this. However the ForceTouch Implementation of the TrackPad of the MacBook Pro is rather initiative and useful. It is similar to the Force Touch Display on the iPhone 6S.

Fingerprint Sensor on the TrackPad

The Surface Book 4 features an added Security feature in the form of a Fingerprint Sensor on the side of the TrackPad.

Optically Bonded Display

Unlike most other laptops in the market, where the display panel and the touchpad are separate entities, the Surface Book has an optically Bonded panel. This is the simalr to the OGS display implementation seen on smartphone. The Optically Bonded Panel helps in better color reproduction and viewing angles.

Surface Pen with Eraser

An added feature in the Microsoft Surface Book is the presence of Pen that also features an Eraser at the bottom. The Pen responds to 1024 pressure point and features a button on the side which can be pressed to open Cortana directly. Further, it comes with replaceable tips.

Quiter Typing

Microsoft is rather proud about their keyboard for the Surface Book. They claim that the key used comes with a 1.6 mm travel which can assure quiter typing.
