Apple’s Next Touchscreen MacBook Pro To Come With an M7 Chip? What We Know

Just a couple of days back, we all got a look at Apple's Touchscreen MacBook and that is all the tech community was talking about. With an OLED display, dynamic island and touchscreen design, the new toy in town is surely exciting. And now, Apple is reportedly already working on a touchscreen MacBook with an M7 chip. Read on.

Apple’s Next Touchscreen MacBook Pro To Come With an M7 Chip?

M7 Pro And M7 Max Could Bring New AI Features

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing its next-generation high-end MacBook Pro models for 2027. These laptops are expected to use the M7 Pro and M7 Max processors, which could introduce additional hardware capabilities for artificial intelligence workloads.

The move could help Apple improve how its professional laptops handle AI tasks locally, without relying entirely on cloud-based services. However, the company has not revealed the chips' architecture, specifications or the features they will support.

Gurman also suggests that Apple may skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max generations for these MacBook Pro models, moving directly from the M5 Pro and M5 Max to the M7 series.

If that turns out to be the case, those looking for a major performance upgrade may have to wait for the next generation rather than expecting an intermediate refresh with M6 Pro or M6 Max chips.

An Affordable 14-Inch MacBook Pro?

Apple is also reportedly developing a redesigned entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M7 chip. Unlike the higher-end models, which are expected to introduce the new design with touchscreen OLED displays, the more affordable version may focus on changes to the chassis and display bezels.

The redesigned laptop is expected to adopt a thinner and lighter body, along with narrower bezels around the screen. This would bring the entry-level MacBook Pro closer to the look of Apple's premium models.

However, there is no confirmation that the standard M7 version will feature an OLED panel or touchscreen support. Apple could retain the existing Liquid Retina XDR display technology to keep the laptop more affordable.

The company recently introduced a 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, retaining the familiar design and display. The reported M7 refresh could therefore bring a more noticeable change to the entry-level model than a routine processor upgrade.

When Could The New MacBook Pro Models Arrive?

According to Gurman, Apple is planning to launch the next-generation MacBook Pro models in 2027. The M7 Pro and M7 Max versions are expected towards the end of the year, while the standard M7 MacBook Pro is also reportedly planned for the same year.

Apple has not announced official launch dates, pricing or detailed specifications for these laptops. The company has also not confirmed whether the entry-level M7 model will receive the same display technology as the more expensive touchscreen MacBook Pro variants.

For now, the reported plans suggest that Apple could be preparing a broader MacBook Pro refresh in 2027, bringing new processors to its professional laptops while extending the redesigned look to its more affordable 14-inch model.
