Apple’s Touchscreen MacBook Pro Could Launch on November 6 But Not With the Upgrade You Think

Over a decade after Steve Jobs called it 'ergonomically impossible’, Apple is finally gearing up to launch a touchscreen MacBook. Rumours about the same have been around for over a year and we may now be roughly a week away from the official unveiling of the device. Even though Apple hasn’t officially announced the launch date of the touchscreen MacBook, rumours are strong that October 27 is the day the curtain on it finally lifts.

Apple’s Touchscreen MacBook Pro Could Launch on November 6

Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has just reported that the laptop may be available from November 6. So, if you have been waiting for a MacBook that lets you tap and swipe your way around the screen, this could be the upgrade to watch. But, there is a catch.

Touchscreen MacBook Pro May Not Get the M6 Chips

The redesigned MacBook Pro was earlier expected to arrive with Apple's M6 Pro and M6 Max processors. However, recent reports suggest that Apple could skip these chips and continue with the M5 Pro and M5 Max instead.

This means you may get a new design and a touchscreen without a generational jump in processors. If you are planning to upgrade mainly for better performance, it may be worth waiting to see what Apple actually announces before making a decision.

The reported change is linked to Apple's plans to speed up development of its M7 chips. However, Apple has not confirmed which processors will power the new MacBook Pro, so the final specifications could still be different.

What Else Is Changing With the New MacBook Pro?

The display could be one of the biggest reasons to consider the new MacBook Pro. Reports suggest Apple will use a Tandem OLED panel, similar to the one found in recent iPad Pro models. The technology uses stacked OLED layers to deliver high brightness, strong contrast and rich colours.

The laptop could also get a smaller Dynamic Island, bringing a familiar feature from the iPhone to the Mac. However, Face ID support is reportedly not part of the package, so you may still have to rely on other authentication options.

The touchscreen is expected to work alongside a version of macOS adapted for finger input. For instance, tapping a control could bring up additional options around your finger, while menu bar items could become larger when selected. References to touch-related features have reportedly appeared in macOS 27, although these alone do not confirm the new MacBook's specifications or launch date.

Apple could also make the laptop thinner and lighter. That would be welcome if you carry your MacBook around regularly, but we will have to wait and see how much the design changes and whether Apple can maintain cooling performance in a slimmer body.

Should You Wait for the Touchscreen MacBook Pro?

If you want a MacBook with a touchscreen, an OLED display and a refreshed design, the upcoming model could be worth waiting for. But if your main reason for upgrading is to get Apple's next-generation Pro or Max processor, do not make a decision just yet.

Apple could announce the laptop on October 27, with November 6 tipped as its possible launch date. Both dates remain unconfirmed, and the company has yet to reveal the laptop itself. Until then, the biggest question is whether the touchscreen and display upgrades will be enough to make this MacBook Pro worth buying, even if it does not get the processor upgrade you were expecting.
