Dell Brings XPS 13, Dell 14S, 16S and Alienware 15 to India: Prices Start at Rs 79,990

Dell Technologies has refreshed its consumer laptop lineup in India today, July 28, with four machines spread across three brands. The XPS 13 opens the batting at Rs 79,990, the Dell 14S follows at Rs 1,19,990, the Alienware 15 lands at Rs 1,28,990, and the Dell 16S sits at the top with Rs 2,29,990. Every price includes taxes, and where you can buy each one varies, so I have broken that down at the end.

Dell is calling this its most comprehensive consumer portfolio for India so far, which is the sort of line every brand puts in a press release. What makes it worth paying attention to here is the spread. An XPS under Rs 80,000 and an Alienware under Rs 1.3 lakh would have sounded like a typo two years ago.

Dell XPS 13: The MacBook Neo Competitor

I got hands-on with the new XPS 13 at Computex in Taipei earlier this year, and it was the machine that stayed with me long after the show floor emptied out. Dell claims this is the thinnest and lightest XPS it has ever built, and the numbers hold up in the hand at 12.7mm along the edges and a 1kg starting weight, wrapped in the CNC aluminium body Dell has been quietly perfecting for a decade.

The obvious comparison right now is the MacBook Neo, and having used both, I think the XPS 13 is the more convenient laptop to actually live with. Apple's budget Mac gives you one full-speed USB-C port and a second one stuck at USB 2 speeds, while the XPS 13 offers two proper USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports, or two Thunderbolt 4 ports depending on the configuration you pick. The Neo also caps you at 8GB of memory with no way out, whereas the XPS 13 scales up to 32GB of LPDDR5X. If you keep 30 Chrome tabs open while a Zoom call runs in the background, and let us be honest, most of us do, that difference shows up by 4pm.

The display gap is just as wide. XPS 13 gets a 2.5K LCD InfinityEdge touch panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage, up to 500 nits of brightness, and a variable refresh rate that swings between 30Hz and 120Hz so the panel is not burning battery when you are reading a PDF. Dell rates it for up to 17 hours of streaming, tested in its own labs, so treat that as a ceiling rather than a promise. Wi-Fi 7 comes standard, the quad speakers are Dolby Atmos tuned, and the backlit keyboard is the same comfortable unit XPS owners already know.

Processors are Intel Core Series 3 at launch, with Core Ultra Series 3 configurations arriving later. Colours are Sky and Storm, and Storm is also arriving later, which is mildly annoying if you had your heart set on the darker finish.

Dell 14S and 16S

The 14S and 16S are where Dell expects the volume to come from, and both lean on the Copilot+ PC story. You choose between the latest Series 3 Intel Core Ultra chips or AMD Ryzen AI 400 Series silicon, with NPUs rated up to 50 TOPS. Dell says the 16S with the Core Ultra X7 358H pushes 55% higher graphics performance than the previous generation in 3DMark Time Spy, which is a genuinely useful jump if you edit video on the side rather than just running Excel.

Whether you will use all that on-device AI horsepower today is a separate question, and I would not buy either of these purely for the NPU. What I would buy them for is the rest of the package. Both stay slim at 15.3mm with metal builds, the 14S starts at 1.46kg, and the colour options are Celestial Blue and Frost Blue. The port selection is refreshingly grown-up too, with two USB Type-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1 and a headset jack, so your college projector and your old pen drive both work without a dongle hunt.

Displays are OLED across the family. The 14S offers an FHD+ OLED panel in touch and non-touch versions, while the 16S steps up to a 2.8K OLED touchscreen. Both hit up to 120Hz, 400 nits, full DCI-P3 coverage and Dolby Vision support. Dell has also used recycled aluminium and plastics here, with fully recycled packaging and EPEAT Gold with Climate+ registration, which is the sort of thing nobody shops for and everybody should.

Alienware 15: The Alien Finally Lands at a Price Indians Can Reach

This is the launch I find most interesting, because Alienware in India has historically been the poster on the wall rather than the laptop on the desk. At Rs 1,28,990, that changes. The lineup now stretches up to Intel Core 7 (Series 2) 240H processors paired with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics, which puts respectable 1080p and 1200p gaming firmly within reach.

The 15.3-inch WUXGA panel runs at 165Hz with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and that extra vertical space matters more than the spec sheet suggests when you are switching between a match and a Discord window. Dell has also tested the chassis for the realities of Indian hostel and home use, claiming it survives spills of up to 60ml and drops of up to 18 inches across all six faces and four corners. Your chai is safe, mostly. The finish is Nova Black in a durable polycarbonate resin, and the port list covers two USB-C ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.1, RJ45 Ethernet, an audio jack and a dedicated power connector.

I would still want to see thermals under a long session before calling it a definitive win, since advanced cooling claims are easy to make and harder to sustain in a 15-inch chassis. On paper, though, this is the most accessible Alienware India has seen.

Anurag Arora, senior director and general manager for Consumer Sales in India at Dell Technologies, said the company is taking the portfolio to 400 cities through its omnichannel network, with a deliberate push into tier-II and tier-III markets. That last part is the detail I would watch, because availability, not ambition, is usually what decides these launches.
