Dell Chromebook 5190 with 13 hours battery life launched for students
Dell Chromebook 5190 is designed keeping students in mind and this is evident from the rugged nature of the laptop.
Dell has announced the launch of a new Chromebook model in its 5000 series at the Bett Show that took place in London. This is a student-focused laptop and has been launched in two variants - one with an 11-inch clamshell form factor and the other with a 2-in-1 convertible design. The new laptop from Dell is touted to offer up to 13 hours of battery life.
According to Dell, the Chromebook 5190 is the first Chromebook model that can withstand up to 10,000 micro drops. The company claims that the laptop can handle regular 48-inch drops or from 30-inches even on steel. It is said that this is the typical height of a classroom desk.
Dell appears to have borrowed the design and technology of the latest Chromebook model from the rugged range of tablets and notebooks. Apparently, the Chromebook 5190 features scratch-resistant displays and strengthened hinges. The keyboard of the Chromebook is also spill-resistant. The chassis of the Chromebook has been developed to be durable even if the device is dropped.
The Dell Chromebook 5190 laptop is designed for the students and is claimed to offer advanced features those are customized for the classroom environment. The World Facing Camera lets users take photos of what is happening in their classroom or on field trips. Also, there is an active stylus for handwriting notes and sketching as well.
The Chromebook 5000 series is also touted to include features such as EMR Pen support, USB Type-C connectivity, world facing camera for videos and dual or quad-core Intel Celeron processors. In its blog post, the company states, "We help enable personalised learning, where students, teachers and technology work together to enrich the learning process.. Our unique, experienced approach puts the student at the centre and technology is leveraged to access the learning resources, information and functionality make personalisation just a few clicks away."
The Dell Chromebook 5190 will be available for purchase from February 2018 at a price point of $289 (approx. Rs. 18,500) onwards for the base variant. We can expect the convertible model of the Chromebook 5000 series to be expensive.
In addition to Dell, even Acer came up with the Chromebook Spin 11, Chromebox CXI3 and Chromebook C732 at the Bett Show. Of these, the C732 is an education-centric laptop with the IP41 rating.
