Exclusive: Primebook Next-Gen Laptop Launching With Up to 40% Performance Boost, Linux App Support

Primebook is preparing to launch its third-generation laptop in India, with the upcoming device set to bring a major performance upgrade and broader software support. Gizbot has exclusively learned from official company sources that the new laptop will feature a new MediaTek chipset, along with expanded capabilities for PrimeOS.

Primebook Next-Gen Laptop: Up to 40% Faster

The biggest hardware upgrade will be the move from the MediaTek Helio G99 used in the previous generation to the MediaTek Genio 720 processor. Primebook claims the new platform will deliver up to 40% higher performance compared to its second-generation laptops.

The upgrade is aimed at providing a faster and more responsive experience for everyday computing, while also offering additional performance headroom for more demanding workloads.

Primebook has not yet revealed the complete specifications, pricing or launch date of the upcoming laptop. These details are expected to be announced closer to launch.

PrimeOS to Support Linux Apps

The new Primebook will also expand the software capabilities of PrimeOS, Primebook's Android-based operating system developed in-house.

Alongside continued access to Android applications, PrimeOS will support select Linux applications and a Linux terminal. The company has specifically mentioned support for tools such as VS Code, GIMP, LibreOffice, MySQL Workbench and Postman.

This could make the upcoming Primebook more useful for users who need coding, development, productivity and creative tools beyond the Android ecosystem.

Windows software will continue to be accessible through PrimeX Cloud PC, giving users another option for running applications that are not natively supported on PrimeOS.

Primebook Is Expanding Beyond Budget Laptops

The upcoming laptop reflects Primebook's broader push towards an OS-led computing ecosystem. Founded in 2017 by IIT Delhi alumni Aman Verma and Chitranshu Mahant, the company initially focused on making laptop computing more accessible to students and young users.

PrimeOS sits at the centre of this strategy, combining Android app support with a desktop-style interface and features such as multi-window multitasking, keymapping, Cloud PC and AI capabilities including Gemini AI Assistant's Companion Mode and Operator AI.

Primebook's current lineup includes the Primebook 2 Neo, Primebook 2 Pro and Primebook 2 Max.

With the third-generation laptop, Primebook appears to be addressing both performance and software limitations commonly associated with affordable computing devices.

The combination of the MediaTek Genio 720, up to 40% higher performance, Linux app support, Android applications and PrimeX Cloud PC could make the new Primebook significantly more versatile than its predecessors.
