Google I/O 2026: Googlebooks Bring Gemini Intelligence To Android Laptops

Google is repositioning its laptop strategy with the new Googlebook, shifting focus from operating systems to intelligence-first computing. The company wants these devices to showcase Gemini as the main way people interact with laptops. Android apps from Google Play Store will run within a modern OS that is built around intelligent features.

According to Google, "These new Googlebooks have Gemini's helpfulness at their core," and the interface highlights Gemini throughout the experience. The system is designed to offer proactive, personal help during everyday tasks, surfacing suggestions and tools whenever users appear to need support, rather than waiting for manual searches.

New Googlebooks Put Gemini Intelligence in the Foreground

The laptops introduce a redesigned user interface created on the Android tech stack, which Google says will let updates ship faster across different devices. This foundation aims to keep experiences consistent between phones, tablets and laptops, allowing Android-powered products to work together more smoothly for people who move between multiple screens.

Central to this push is Magic Pointer, a new tool built with support from the Google DeepMind team. When users nudge the cursor over on-screen items, Gemini offers contextual options, such as combining two chosen images or turning a highlighted date in an email into a calendar meeting, cutting out several manual steps.

Gemini on Googlebooks will also help users assemble custom widgets from short prompts. It can look up information across the web or draw from Google services like Gmail and Calendar. Using that data, Gemini creates personalised dashboards that surface messages, events and other details that match each person’s stated priorities and routines.

On the hardware side, Google says it is collaborating with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo on the first wave of Googlebooks. The company describes the devices as using premium materials and coming in several sizes and form factors. Each laptop will also include a distinctive illuminated “glow bar” for visual identity and extra functionality.

Google has confirmed that the initial Googlebooks line-up is scheduled to reach markets in the fall. With Gemini built into both software and hardware elements, the company is positioning these laptops as a major step in its move from an operating system-centric model towards intelligence-led personal computing across the broader Android ecosystem.
