Googlebook Android-Powered Laptop Launched with Gemini, Phone Integration and Up to 10 Years of Updates

Google has introduced Googlebook, a new laptop category designed to bring Android closer to a full-fledged desktop computing experience. The company says Googlebook combines the Android technology stack with desktop foundations from ChromeOS, while placing Gemini AI at the centre of the experience.

Google is working with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo for the first Googlebook laptops. The move marks a broader effort to connect Android phones, laptops and Gemini-powered features within a single computing ecosystem.

Googlebook Makes Android Phones Part of the Laptop Experience

One of the key features of Googlebook is its integration with Android smartphones. During setup, users can transfer phone settings, saved passwords, Wi-Fi networks and messages to the laptop. Google says the transfer is protected with end-to-end encryption.

The platform also introduces Continue On, which lets users resume supported activities from their phone through the Googlebook taskbar. For example, a BandLab project started on a phone can be continued on the laptop.

The Files app can access, search and open files and photos stored on a connected Android phone. Meanwhile, Cast My Apps allows users to stream phone applications into desktop windows, which could be useful for messaging, delivery apps and accessing one-time passwords.

Gemini Is Built Into Googlebook

Google is positioning Gemini as a core part of the Googlebook experience rather than as a standalone application.

One of the headline features is Magic Pointer. Activated by wiggling the cursor, it brings Gemini tools to content displayed on the screen. Users can highlight information and ask Gemini to perform tasks, such as adding runs from a marathon training plan to Google Calendar. It can also analyse suspicious emails, including their text and images.

Magic Pointer can be disabled if users do not want the feature active.

Another tool, Rambler, is positioned around voice input. Located near the Quick Insert key, it can convert spoken notes and rough thoughts into structured writing. Google says it can remove filler words and stutters, create headings and checklists, and handle multiple languages within the same sentence.

Create My Widget lets users create small desktop widgets using natural-language prompts. For example, users can describe a sports score tracker or countdown timer, and Googlebook can create a widget that provides updates throughout the day.

Chrome, Android Apps and Gaming

Googlebook combines a desktop version of Chrome with support for extensions and Android apps through the Play Store. Google says many supported apps are optimised for larger screens, keyboards and mouse controls.

The platform supports applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and CapCut, along with streaming services including Netflix and HBO Max.

Gaming is another focus, with access to Android games and AAA titles through GeForce NOW. Google is also offering a complimentary one-year GeForce NOW subscription with every Googlebook purchase.

For developers, every Googlebook includes Antigravity, Google's AI agent development platform. Users also get a full terminal environment, Claude Code and Antigravity CLI support, along with tools designed for agentic coding.

Security and Hardware

Googlebook uses a security architecture based on ChromeOS, including Google Titan security hardware, defence-in-depth protections and on-device malware detection.

Google also highlights a Level 5 security-certified pKVM hypervisor, which enables an isolated Linux environment with full terminal access.

All five launch laptops feature 16GB RAM, 512GB storage and backlit keyboards. Depending on the model, construction materials include aluminium, magnesium alloy and carbon fibre. Every laptop has a fingerprint reader, while the HP and Lenovo models also offer face unlock.

The laptops feature an exterior Glowbar that lights up during startup, indicates battery charge and displays animations when users interact with Gemini.

Googlebook Price and Availability

The Acer Googlebook 14 starts at $999 (around ₹95,600), while the ASUS Googlebook 14 and HP Googlebook 14 start at $1,299 (around ₹1,24,360). The Dell XPS Googlebook starts at $1,199 (around ₹1,14,790), and the Lenovo Googlebook 15 starts at $1,099 (around ₹1,05,215).

Every Googlebook includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced tools. The bundle also includes three months of YouTube Premium, Adobe Photoshop and other services.

Google says Googlebook OS will receive feature drops and updates for up to 10 years.

Pre-orders are now open through the Google Store, Best Buy and select retailers. The laptops are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. on October 4, followed by Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on October 5. Google has not announced India availability as part of the shared launch details.
