Intel unveiled five models of the 8th generation Core CPUs and these are designed to be used by laptops and desktops. The first 2-in-1 laptops featuring these new processors from Intel will be launched by Dell and HP. However, the companies have not revealed when those 2-in-1 laptops will be announced. The other companies will announce more products in the coming months. In addition to these, Intel has also announced a new lineup of compact NUC PCs with the new processors and this lineup is aimed at gamers.

The CPUs were unveiled under the new G series. Two of the five new models unveiled will have 100W thermal ratings and are meant for the desktops. The other three models will have 65W ratings and are meant for the high-end laptops. All the five CPUs are integrated with Radeon Vega GPUs and can behave like a discrete GPU.

The Intel HD Graphics 630 logic is a part of the processor die and will take over when there is no requirement for a powerful GPU. Intel's new lineup of processors are claimed to render 1.6x better production, 6.7x faster video transcoding, and 2.3x faster graphics in comparison to the three-year-old laptops using the 7th generation Core CPU (Core i7-4740 CPU) and Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M GPUs. On comparing the same with the Core i57-8550 CPU and GeForce GTX 1050 seen in the modern systems, the latest one is said to provide 1.4x better overall performance.

When it comes to laptops, the new Core i7-8705G and Core i5-8305G processors are quad-core parts with the Hyper-Threading feature. The former can render base and boost speeds of 3.1GHz and 4.1GHz respectively while the latter can render 2.8GHz and 3.8GHz of base and boost speeds. The former has 8MB cache and the latter has 6MB cache. The other one - Core i7-8706G is similar to Core i7-8705G but supports Intel's vPro technology for business-class remote management as well as security features. Notably, it is the only one the lineup to arrive with these features.

All the five new Intel processors will have support for two channels of DDR4-2400 RAM. These CPUs are quad-core and use Intel HD Graphics instead of Intel UHD Graphics.
