Microsoft Now Lets AirPods Connect Faster: How to Install The New Update
If you own the AirPods and often connect them to a Windows PC, here is some good news. Microsoft’s latest update allows the wireless earbuds to connect up to 15 seconds faster.
The update addresses several Bluetooth issues that Windows users have faced, including incorrect connection status reports and problems with audio accessories. However, the improvements are rolling out gradually, so you may have to wait before they reach your PC.

Microsoft’s Latest Update
According to Microsoft, the improvement is included in Windows 11 OS build 26200.8737. It is also worth mentioning that the actual results may vary depending on the AirPods model, device configuration and usage. So, not every AirPods user will have the same experience.
Also, the update is not limited to Apple's earbuds. Microsoft has also said that all Bluetooth headphones should work more reliably, with improvements to pairing, reconnection, audio and calls. That said, Microsoft has not provided specific performance figures for other headphone models.
What Else Does the Update Fix?
Apart from faster pairing, the October update introduces several fixes designed to make Bluetooth connections more reliable.
One change addresses incorrect connection status reports. Previously, Windows 11 could continue showing a headset as connected even after it had disconnected. This could cause users to select the disconnect option, only to reconnect the headset because the displayed status was inaccurate.
Microsoft has also fixed an issue where the Bluetooth radio could remain switched on even when users turned it off through the Bluetooth and devices section in Windows Settings.
The update also improves the volume controls for Bluetooth audio accessories. When users adjust volume through the physical buttons or touch controls on a headset during a call, Windows 11's volume indicator should now appear. Previously, this indicator appeared only when users changed the volume through Quick Settings.
Microphone compatibility has also been improved, which could reduce audio stuttering on some headsets. Microsoft has not specified which accessories benefit from this fix.
The update is also expected to improve Bluetooth audio quality and address bugs affecting Windows 11's shared audio feature, which allows two people to listen to audio from one PC using separate headphones.
How to Get the Windows 11 Bluetooth Update
Microsoft is rolling out the Bluetooth improvements gradually, meaning they may not become available on every compatible PC immediately.
To check your Windows 11 build number, open Settings, go to System and select About. According to the source report, PCs running build 26300.9711, 26200.9711, 26100.9711 or a newer version should receive the Bluetooth fixes as the rollout progresses.
You can also enable the Get the latest updates as soon as they're available option in Windows Update to help speed up access to new features. However, Microsoft is using a gradual rollout, so the improvements may still take some time to appear.
In a nutshell, if you use AirPods with a Windows laptop, the update could make connecting your earbuds less frustrating. More importantly, the Bluetooth reliability fixes should help address problems beyond pairing, including audio, microphone and connection status issues.
