Microsoft Surface Book 2 arriving in India later this year; features and pricing

Both the 13-inch and 15-inch variants of the Surface Book 2 will make their way to the Indian market later this year, as per Microsoft's official blog post.

Back in 2015, Microsoft released a 2-in-1 with a detachable keyboard; the Surface Book. It was the first Surface device that was marketed as a laptop. While it received a pretty warm response among customers, the Redmond-based software giant took another two years to launch its successor. In November 2017, Microsoft had launched the Surface Book 2 laptop in two variants; 13-inch and 15-inch.

Up until recently, only the 13-inch model was available in select markets. Good news is, both the 13-inch and 15-inch variants of the Surface Book 2 will make their way to the Indian market later this year, as per Microsoft's official blog post. While in some countries like the US, Australia, Canada and Germany, pre-orders for the 15-inch model has already started.

Just to recall, below are the specs of the Surface Book 2.

13.5-inch model

The 13.5-inch Microsoft Surface Book 2 has four variants with different processors and storage capacities. The basic one has an Intel Core i5 processor with 256GB SSD storage; the second one packs an Intel Core i7 processor with 256GB SSD storage. The third variant comes with an Intel Core i7 processor with 512GB SSD storage. The highest variant features and Intel Core i7 with 1TB SSD storage.

The 13.5-inch model has PixelSense Display delivering a screen resolution of 3,000×2,000 pixels (267PPI). In terms of memory, it offers either 8GB or 16GB LPDDR3 RAM.

Talking about the graphics, the 13.5-inch models come with Intel HD Graphics 620 integrated GPU, Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated GPU, or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 discrete GPU w/2GB VRAM depending on the variant.

15-inch model

15-inch Microsoft Surface Book 2 comes in three variants. The basic one with an Intel Core i7 processor and 256GB SSD storage; the second one with an Intel Core i7 processor and 512GB SSD storage; the highest variant with an Intel Core i7 processor and 1TB SSD storage.

The 15-inch model is also fitted with a screen resolution of 3,240×2,160 pixels (260 ppi). It packs 16GB LPDDR3 RAM.

In terms of graphics, the 15-inch model either has Intel UHD Graphics 620 integrated GPU or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 discrete GPU w/6GB VRAM depending on thee variant.

Other features

The Surface Book 2 supports the Surface Pen with tilt and 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. The laptop also sports a Surface Dial on-screen.

It is equipped with a 5MP front-facing camera with 1080p HD video recording support. There is also an 8MP rear autofocus camera with 1080p Full HD video recording support. In addition, the Microsoft Surface Book 2 comes with dual microphones, and front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby Audio Premium technology.

Pricing

As far as the pricing is concerned, 13-inch Microsoft Surface 2 starts at $1,499 (approximately Rs. 95,800), whereas the starting price of the 15-inch model is $2,499 (approximately Rs. 1,60,000).
