Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra Launched for High-End Nvidia AI Workloads: Check Price & Specifications

Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra, positioning it as a high-end Windows machine built for demanding local AI workloads. The company says the laptop combines NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform with its Windows hybrid intelligence roadmap, allowing AI tasks to move between on-device hardware and cloud systems depending on performance, privacy and workload needs.

The Surface Laptop Ultra is being described by Microsoft as its most powerful Surface Laptop so far. Its main pitch is not conventional laptop performance alone, but the ability to run large AI models locally. Microsoft claims the machine can handle AI models with more than 120 billion parameters and deliver up to one petaflop of AI performance.

Surface Laptop Ultra Specifications and AI Performance

The laptop is powered by NVIDIA’s RTX Spark Superchip, which combines an NVIDIA Grace CPU with up to 20 cores and an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores. It can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory, a key specification for running larger AI models without depending entirely on cloud compute.

For developers, creators and AI researchers, the major draw is access to NVIDIA’s CUDA ecosystem on a Surface-branded device. That could make the laptop more useful for local model testing, AI-assisted coding, prototyping, visual workloads and agent-based tasks that need fast access to files stored on the device.

The Surface Laptop Ultra comes with a 15-inch touchscreen and is claimed to offer up to 25 per cent brighter peak HDR performance than the MacBook Pro M5. Microsoft says the device measures under 18mm in thickness and weighs 2.04kg. It will be available in Platinum and Nightfall colour options.

Connectivity is also broader than on many thin premium laptops. The device includes two USB-C ports, HDMI, USB-A, an SD card slot and a headphone jack. Microsoft has also highlighted advanced haptic feedback and user-replaceable storage, which could appeal to users who want longer-term serviceability.

What Hybrid Intelligence Means for Windows

Alongside the new laptop, Microsoft detailed its broader plan for hybrid intelligence in Windows. The idea is to let AI agents and Copilot decide when to use local compute and when to rely on cloud infrastructure. This could help balance speed, privacy, battery use and the complexity of the task.

Microsoft says this approach will bring “frontier-class capabilities to local PCs”. In practical terms, Copilot may be able to use information stored on a user’s PC, run local models and take actions across apps or files. The company has also said AI agents could write code and access files without external intervention, under the platform’s security framework.

The shift is important because most consumer-facing AI tools still depend heavily on cloud servers. Moving more work to the device can reduce latency and keep sensitive data closer to the user. For commercial customers, local AI processing may also help meet internal security and compliance requirements.

Microsoft also announced that Meta’s Muse AI agent will arrive on Windows as a native app. That fits into the wider strategy of turning Windows PCs into platforms for multiple AI agents, rather than limiting AI features to a single assistant or cloud service.

The Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 on Microsoft’s official site, with availability listed from October 16. Its India pricing and availability have not been detailed in the provided announcement. For now, the device appears aimed at users who need workstation-class AI performance in a portable Windows laptop.
