Microsoft Launches Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 With Snapdragon X2 Chips: Check Specs, Features

Microsoft's new Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 are now available, both powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 chips. The Surface Pro starts at $1,499 and the Laptop at $1,599. Business versions follow on July 14 at $1,649.99.

Both devices come in 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus and 12-core X2 Elite configurations. Microsoft claims up to 53% faster graphics over the previous Snapdragon X generation, along with 80 TOPS of NPU performance for AI tasks.

Surface Pro 12

The Surface Pro 12 is a 13-inch convertible tablet with an optional OLED display alongside the standard LCD, both in the 3:2 aspect ratio. Base config is 16GB RAM and 256GB storage, scaling up to 32GB RAM and 1TB. Battery life is claimed at up to 15.5 hours. It comes in Platinum, Black, and a new Dune finish with a matching Flex Keyboard. The keyboard and stylus are sold separately.

Surface Laptop 8

The Laptop 8 comes in 13.8-inch and 15-inch sizes, both LCD. The 13.8-inch picks up two new colours: Jade green and Dune. The 15-inch stays with Platinum and Black. Base config is 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Microsoft claims up to 20 hours of battery on the 13.8-inch and 19 hours on the 15-inch. Both sizes get a new haptic trackpad and ship with the Affinity creative suite pre-loaded and optimised for the Snapdragon X2.

Repairability and Sustainability

Both devices are built with 100% recycled aluminium. Microsoft is also introducing a new Surface Repair Tool that lets users run diagnostics on key components and walk through guided repairs for parts like the battery, display, and touchpad.

Availability and Offers

Business availability begins July 14. Microsoft is also running launch offers until June 30, including a free keyboard with the Surface Pro and a free Arc Mouse with the Laptop.
