Microsoft Unveils Surface Laptop 13-inch and Surface Pro 12-inch: Here’s What’s New
Microsoft has just lifted the curtain on two new Surface devices—the Surface Laptop 13-inch and the Surface Pro 12-inch.
Both are powered by the Snapdragon X Plus processor, which comes with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of handling 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS).

Surface Laptop 13-inch
The Surface Laptop 13-inch is designed to be Microsoft's thinnest and lightest Surface Laptop to date. It features a 13-inch Full HD touchscreen display with minimal bezels and is wrapped in an anodized aluminum chassis. The laptop is available in three colors: Ocean, Platinum, and Violet, adding a bit of personality to the usual Surface aesthetic.
Under the hood, it’s powered by the Snapdragon X Plus, which Microsoft claims is 50% faster than the Surface Laptop 5 and even edges out Apple’s MacBook Air M3. The laptop comes with 16GB or 24GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB and 512GB.

One of its standout features is the battery life. Microsoft says the Surface Laptop 13-inch can deliver up to 23 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing on a single charge. That’s a bold claim for a Windows laptop, and if it holds up in real-world use, it could be a game-changer for those who work on the go.
The laptop also comes with an AI-powered camera featuring auto HDR and noise reduction, which should help improve video calls and content creation. It includes 45W fast charging through its USB Type-C port, and there’s even a fingerprint reader built right into the power button for quicker logins.
Surface Pro 12-inch
Microsoft also introduced the Surface Pro 12-inch, a 2-in-1 device that aims to be both a laptop and a tablet. It features the same Snapdragon X Plus processor as its laptop sibling, along with that 45 TOPS NPU for AI-boosted performance.
The 12-inch touchscreen comes with an adjustable kickstand and a detachable keyboard, which transforms it into a fully functional laptop. The keyboard is available in Slate, Ocean, and Violet and includes backlit keys, a Copilot key, and even an adaptive touchpad.

One of the cool design features is the magnetic attachment for the Surface Slim Pen. It clicks neatly onto the back of the device for easy storage and charging. Internally, the Surface Pro 12-inch is available with 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It weighs just 0.68 kg, making it one of the lighter 2-in-1s in its category.
Microsoft says the Surface Pro 12-inch provides all-day battery life, although exact numbers haven’t been shared. Considering its lightweight design and detachable setup, it’s clearly targeting those who want maximum flexibility without sacrificing performance.
Business Editions and Availability
Microsoft also announced business versions of both models, set to arrive on July 22. These variants will come with Windows 11 Pro, anti-reflective displays, and additional security features designed for enterprise use. The Surface Pro for Business will also have an NFC reader for enhanced security.
Both the Surface Laptop 13-inch and the Surface Pro 12-inch will start shipping in select markets from May 20. The Surface Laptop 13-inch is priced starting at $899 (about ₹76,000), while the Surface Pro 12-inch starts at $799 (around ₹67,000). Pre-orders are already live on the Microsoft website, Best Buy, and Amazon US. Availability in India hasn’t been confirmed yet.
No Charger in the Box
Interestingly, Microsoft has decided not to include chargers with these Surface models, citing sustainability goals. While this follows a trend set by other major tech companies, it’s worth noting if you’re planning to pick one up.
