Next Apple MacBook Pro Will Feature An OLED Touchscreen: Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple, known for its distinct design choices, has historically avoided integrating touchscreens into its MacBook lineup. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests a change in strategy. The company is reportedly planning to introduce a touchscreen MacBook Pro with an OLED display next year. This model will feature on-cell touch technology and the display will be produced by Samsung.

The decision to incorporate touchscreens seems to stem from Apple's observations of iPad user behaviour. According to Kuo, the company has noted that touch controls can enhance productivity and user experience in certain scenarios. This insight may have alleviated concerns about potential competition between touchscreen MacBooks and iPads.

Future Prospects for Touchscreen MacBooks

While details remain scarce, questions arise about the new MacBook's features. It's unclear if it will include a 360° hinge for tablet-like functionality or support the Apple Pencil stylus. These aspects are yet to be determined as Apple continues to refine its approach.

In addition to the high-end models, Apple is also working on an entry-level MacBook. This version is expected to use an Apple A18 Pro chipset from the iPhone 16 Pro series and aim for a $700 price point. Notably, this initial model will not include a touchscreen.

Potential Expansion of Touch Features

Apple might extend touchscreen capabilities beyond its Pro models in future iterations. Kuo indicates that the second generation of the affordable MacBook, anticipated in 2027, could potentially feature a touchscreen. However, this remains under discussion within Apple's development teams.

The introduction of touchscreens in Apple's laptops marks a significant shift in their product strategy. As they explore this new direction, it will be interesting to see how these changes impact their product lineup and consumer preferences.
