ASUS Zenbook A14 Review: Epic Battery Life Meets Stunning Design – But Does It Really Deliver?

Intel has dominated the CPU landscape in laptops for years now, although AMD has gradually started challenging that dominance. However, in the past year, a new player has emerged in the consumer notebook space. Qualcomm now offers a line of Snapdragon chips, tailored to meet the performance and efficiency demands of thin and light notebooks.

The ASUS Zenbook A14, first showcased at CES 2025, is one of the earliest adopters of Qualcomm's latest laptop CPU, the Snapdragon X chip. With a price tag of Rs 99,990, the new Zenbook A14 doesn't come cheap, but it isn't all that expensive going by ultrabook standards. But can it live up to that price tag? Let's find out!

Design and Build

One of the standout features of the new Zenbook A14 is its lightweight construction, coming in at just 980 grams. Additionally, it is quite slim, measuring 13.4mm thick. But unlike in the case of traditional notebooks, the Zenbook A14 uses Ceraluminum, which is a mix of aluminium, magnesium, and ceramic. This new material enables the slimmer and lighter form factor without compromising on durability, in fact, Ceraluminum is tougher than the traditional aluminium used on most ultrabooks.

Moreover, the notebook is US MIL-STD 810H certified for reliability and durability. The matte grey finish is well resistant to fingerprints and smudges. The Zenbook A14 also features rubber feet on the bottom and a sturdy hinge. ASUS's follows a minimalist design with the Zenbook A14 with comfortable rounded edges, a large keyboard deck, and touchpad. Not to mention the subtle 'ASUS Zenbook' text on the lid and the logo just above the keyboard deck.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the 14-inch Zenbook offers a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a USB Type-C port (Thunderbolt 4), a 3.5mm audio jack, and HDMI 2.1 port, and a USB Type-A port. Wireless Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The Zenbook A14's keyboard is quite comfortable with well-spaced out and fairly large keys. There is a good bit of key travel at 1.3mm, although it is nothing to write home about. ASUS also use a new coating on the keys to ensure that they are resistant to fingerprints and smooth to the touch. The keyboard also comes with a backlight to allow you to type in dim lit rooms.

The large glass touchpad supports smart gestures along the side and top edges to adjust display brightness and volume and control video playback. Additionally, the click on the touchpad was quite responsive, making the overall navigation experience fluid. I found using the keyboard and touchpad extremely convenient while working on the go.

Display

ASUS makes zero concessions with the display on the Zenbook A14, opting for a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels) OLED display with a comfortable 16:10 aspect ratio. The screen boasts a peak HDR brightness of 600 nits and a maximum brightness of 400 nits, which is solid by laptop standards. The high brightness level combined with the anti-glare coating allows you to use the A14 outdoors, so long as the sun isn't glaring down on you.

To ensure optimal eye protection, the display is SGS and TÜV Rheinland low blue light certified. The display also supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and is certified for DisplayHDR 600 True Black. It also features a standard 60Hz refresh rate and slim uniform bezels on all four sides. Overall, this display offers excellent colour accuracy, making it ideal for productivity tasks, content creation, and immersive content consumption.

Performance and Software

The Zenbook A14 isn't geared for heavy multitasking but excels as a sleek, reliable machine for everyday tasks. Featuring the Snapdragon X Elite, it delivers balanced performance-effortlessly handling daily activities such as juggling multiple Chrome tabs or streaming movies-while its efficient architecture enables competitive multi-threaded CPU performance without suffering the thermal limitations seen in Intel or AMD chips.

However, for heavy-load tasks or specialized software, traditional x86 platforms are still preferable. In everyday use, its efficiency, cooler thermals, and quieter operation make it ideal, although in Performance mode or under increased load, the laptop's fans can become noticeably loud, which might be distracting during extended sessions, especially at night. Here are a few benchmarks:

In Geekbench 6, the Zenbook A14 managed a single-core score of 2087 points and a multi-core score of 9992 points. In Cinebecnh R23's 10-minute throttling test, the Zenbook 14 managed a single-core score of 995 points and a multi-core score of 4578 points. You can also use the MyASUS app to switch between power profiles.

You can update drivers, keep tabs on all open apps and their memory consumption, run diagnosis, and more using the MyASUS software. Additionally, thanks to the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, which delivers 45 TOPS performance, the Zenbook A14 qualifies as a Co-Pilot Plus certified PC.

Finally, ASUS StoryCube is an AI-powered digital asset management app that consolidates and auto-categorizes photos, videos, and audio from multiple sources into one intuitive hub. It automates highlight reel generation and streamlines file organization for both creative professionals and everyday users.

Battery

The Asus Zenbook A14 stands out with its exceptional battery life, powered by a 70Wh lithium-polymer cell and a 90W Type-C charger. Thanks to the energy-efficient Qualcomm platform, Asus claims up to 32 hours of usage.

While real-world results vary, the laptop comfortably delivers over 20 hours in Whisper mode and around 17-19 hours in standard mode. In a full-brightness YouTube playback test, it managed just over 20 hours-still impressive. It also sips power in sleep mode, showing virtually no battery drain. This combination makes the Zenbook A14 one of the most efficient laptops in its class.

Verdict

The ASUS Zenbook A14 impresses with its premium design, featuring a lightweight yet durable Ceraluminum chassis and a slim profile. Its 14-inch OLED display delivers excellent color accuracy and brightness, ensuring an enjoyable viewing experience both indoors and outdoors. The laptop offers outstanding battery life, easily exceeding 20 hours on a single charge, making it ideal for on-the-go use.

Its comfortable keyboard with responsive feedback and robust connectivity options-including multiple USB ports, HDMI, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3-enhance overall usability. While the Snapdragon X Elite ensures efficient everyday performance and cool operation, heavy multitasking or specialized software workloads may expose its average performance compared to traditional x86 systems.

Additionally, integrated AI features like ASUS StoryCube and the Qualcomm Hexagon NPU boost productivity by streamlining digital asset management and task switching. Overall, this ultrabook is recommended for professionals seeking a premium, portable laptop, but not for those demanding top-tier performance in a slim and light package.
