A Feast for the Eyes Let's begin with the standout feature: the display. The Omen Transcend 14 features a captivating 2.8K OLED panel. Gaming on this screen is a treat, thanks to its vibrant colors and deep blacks, typical of high-quality OLED displays. Beyond gaming, movie-watching is equally immersive, with each frame appearing vibrant and detailed, complemented by the panel's impressive brightness. With its 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, the Omen Transcend 14 delivers professional-level color accuracy, making it well-suited for tasks like photo editing and other creative activities.

Talking about gaming again, the 0.2ms response time ensures near-instantaneous pixel response, eliminating ghosting and blurring for a truly responsive gaming experience.

A Keyboard Designed for Comfort and Style The keyboard might seem like a minor detail, but for gamers and professionals alike, it can make or break the experience. Thankfully, HP hasn't skimped on this crucial component. The Omen Transcend 14 features a brand new lattice-less RGB keyboard that not only looks sleek but offers a comfortable and satisfying typing experience.

The unique design with translucent keycaps allows for brighter and more vibrant RGB lighting effects. More importantly, the key travel distance and overall feel are well-suited for both intense gaming sessions and marathon typing tasks. Whether you're casting spells in your favorite RPG or hammering out a report, the keyboard offers a great level of comfort.

This Thin-and-Light Can Game The Omen 14 boasts an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. Utilizing Intel's new Meteor Lake CPUs, this laptop offers impressive speed. On the graphics side, it features an RTX 4060 with a capped TDP of 65W, indicating HP's emphasis on portability over raw performance.

During my Genshin Impact gaming session lasting over an hour, the laptop performed admirably, delivering solid gameplay. However, I did observe occasional stutters, particularly during world loading and location transitions. For a more fluid experience, tweaking the graphic settings down slightly is advisable.

When diving into Rise of the Tomb Raider, a AAA title, I was captivated by the exceptional color reproduction. The vibrant greens, snowy peaks, and sharp shadows enhanced the overall gaming experience.

Running at 1080p with DLSS disabled, I achieved an average of 77 fps. Cranking up the resolution to the maximum, the average frame rate dropped to 45 fps.

While these numbers may not be groundbreaking, this laptop is more than capable of handling gaming. If you're a casual gamer prioritizing portability and decent graphics over high frame rates, this laptop is a suitable choice.

In a nutshell: This laptop provides smooth gameplay at medium settings and 1080p resolution, but demanding titles at higher resolutions might struggle.

Beyond gaming, the Omen 14 excels in everyday tasks. Managing my typical workload involving multiple Chrome tabs and Slack running in the background posed no challenge for this laptop. Thus, besides being a gaming machine, it also serves effectively as a productivity laptop.

The Portability Powerhouse Gamers on the go, rejoice! The HP Omen Transcend 14 is a champion of portability. It's one of the lightest 14-inch gaming laptops on the market, making it incredibly easy to carry around. Gone are the days of lugging around a bulky behemoth - you can frag out or catch up on work from anywhere with an outlet. This makes it an excellent choice for students, professionals who travel frequently, or anyone who wants a gaming laptop that doesn't weigh them down.

However, it's important to remember that achieving such impressive portability often involves trade-offs. Let's delve into the areas where the Omen Transcend 14 might fall short for some users.

4 Reasons to Skip the HP Omen Transcend 14

The Achilles' Heel: Battery Life One of the main challenges for the Omen Transcend 14 is its battery life. The laptop falls short of lasting a full workday, offering only about 4 hours of screen-on time, which is below par. It's recommended to keep a charger handy at all times. On a positive note, the laptop supports Type-C charging, allowing you to use a lightweight Type-C adapter for quick and convenient charging on the go.

It's Hot While the Omen Transcend 14 packs an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, it doesn't quite live up to its full potential. The culprit is the conservative power limit of 65W placed on the graphics card and the thin-and-light design, which doesn't quite bode well with cooling solutions.

But on the other end, the laptop tends to run warm, and under heavy loads, can become quite hot. This can be a major turnoff for several reasons.

On two separate occasions, the display shut off after gaming sessions lasting over 30 minutes with titles like Genshin Impact and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Thankfully, the laptop didn't completely power down as I had feared. Nevertheless, the keyboard area became extremely hot, making it uncomfortable to continue playing, so I switched to a controller.

During non-gaming activities, such as writing this review with the laptop on my lap, I could feel the warmth emanating from the device. After approximately 45 minutes, the heat became so intense that it was uncomfortable to keep the laptop on my lap.

Despite maintaining consistent performance and effortlessly handling all tasks without any noticeable drops in performance, the significant heat generated by the Omen Transcend 14 remains a cause for concern.

Sacrificing Ports for Size The focus on portability has another consequence: a limited selection of ports. The Omen Transcend 14 offers a decent selection of connectivity options, but it lacks some ports that some users might find essential.

The most notable absence is the SD card slot, which could be a significant drawback for content creators who frequently transfer photos or videos.

Weak Audio The audio quality is another area where this laptop falls short. Despite being tuned by HyperX, the dual speakers on the laptop deliver below-average sound quality in my tests. In a room with background noise, such as an overhead fan running at full speed, the audio gets muffled, and the laptop's fan noise further detracts from the experience. It's advisable to use headphones for gaming or watching content to enhance the audio experience.
