According to the report published in early July 2014 by market research firm IDC, India was the highest growing market in Asia Pacific with a year-on-year smartphone shipment growth of over 186% in 1Q 2014.The vast majority of the country's user base migrated to smartphones from feature phones and as a result Indian smartphone market outshone other emerging markets like China which registered a year-on-year growth of 31% in 1Q 2014.

The brands that stood on the top 5 positions according to the quarterly report generated by IDC suggested Samsung as a top player with 35% share followed by Micromax with 15%, Karbonn with 10% and than Lava and Nokia. The share is vendor-wise.

However, according to the recent report published by CounterPoint technologies, another market research firm, Micromax has emerged as the vest selling smartphone brand in the sub-continent leaving Samsung in the second place and what was even interesting was the fact that it beat Nokia by taking the first position in even in feature phone segment.
