5 Smartphone Brands which Hold the Top Spots in Indian Market

Mobile phones have changed the way we communicate. Especially in India, cell phone has become a common product and almost everyone owns one. They have become an indispensable part of daily life and it's hard imagining what many would do without them and this is why the mobile industry is growing leaps and bounds with every rising quarter.

 

Recently, Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Technology Market Research has come up with a report on the industry according to which, Indian brands together captured more than two-thirds of the total mobile phone shipments and more than half of the smartphone shipments.

Also, they came up with a study on consumer buying pattern, which evaluated that Indian mobile phone market grew a modest 2% annually but the smartphone segment grew a handsome 68% annually as demand for feature phones fell 16% annually in Q2 2014.

In the report, Counterpoint also highlighted the market share of the handset brands running in India which have tasted the success and the results were surprising. No. 5:  Lava

After a lot of struggle, Lava captures 5.6% of the market share in Q1 2014 and holds the last place. The home-grown manufacturer has experimented a lot this year with its Iris range of smartphones and looks in spirit to escalate in the top 5 list.

 No. 4: Karbonn

Karbonn launched several models in the smartphone segment with compelling specifications including 5 inch HD displays, 8 MP Camera and more and stands at 9.5% of market share.

No. 3:  Nokia

Nokia settled at the third spot with 10.9% share, followed by home-grown Karbonn at 9.5% and Lava at 5.6%.

In the overall handset market in India (which includes feature phone, smart-feature phones and smart phones), Samsung has come down to second spot at 14.4% market share. Looks like the South Korean tech giant will have to work really hard to get its top position back.

No. 1  Micromax

Yes, Micromax tops the list, by becoming the leading mobile phone supplier brand in India in Q2 2014 for the first time ever surpassing Samsung and capturing 17% market share up from 13% in Q1 2014. Micromax was also the second largest smartphone vendor closing in on Samsung, capturing 19% share in this fast growing segment.

The India-based handset maker has also widened the gap with the third largest smartphone player as the race for the third place is up for grabs with fierce competition between Karbonn, Motorola, Celkon, Nokia, Apple and Sony.

Micromax also became the leading feature phone supplier overtaking Nokia for the first time. Globally, Micromax also jumped up the rankings becoming the tenth largest handset brand in terms of mobile phone shipment volumes.
