Alcatel Announces Idol 2, Idol 2 Mini and Pop Fit Android-Based Smartphones at MWC 2014

Alcatel, a mobile phone manufacturing company, which started as a joint venture between Alcatel-Lucent of France and TCL Communication of China, has today officially announced its latest smartphones called the Idol 2, Idol 2 Mini and Pop Fit, at the Mobile World Congress 2014.

 

The first two smartphones fall in the company's already existing One Touch Idol series. In fact, Alcatel prefers to call it the One Touch Idol 2. Going by the specs, the Idol 2 comes with a 5-inch HD screen and is powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. It has an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash a 1.3-megapixel front facing snapper as well.

The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 Mini on the other hand features a smaller 4.5-inch qHD display and a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. What is common between the two smartphone are that both run on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean), which is upgradable to Android 4.4 (KitKat). Also these smartphones have a same 1 GB RAM coupled with 8 or 16GB of native storage.

The metal body of Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 only measures 7.3mm in thickness and also comes in an LTE variant. The company calls the LTE variant as OneTouch Idol 2 S. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 Mini is 8.5mm thick and, similar to the earlier model, has an LTE variant called the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 S. You also have dual SIM variants of these smartphones as well.

Talking about the pricing, the Idol 2 3G and 4G variants will cost you 199 Euros (approx. Rs. 16,993) and 249 Euros (approx. Rs. 21,231) respectively while the 3G and 4G variants of the Idol 2 Mini will hit the market with a price tag of 169 Euros (approx. Rs. 14,388) and 209 Euros (approx. Rs. 17,799) respectively.

The third one which got announced today from Alcatel's stable is the OneTouch Pop Fit, which is a 2.8-inch phones with a QVGA screen. It comes with a wide range of accessories which include: semi-transparent flip cover and an armband case, a JBL in-ear headphones and more. It is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core MediaTek processor coupled with 512 MB RAM and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It is powered by a very low battery capacity of 1000 mAh. It should be noted that this particular one is a splashproof smartphone and comes with a pre-loaded RunKeeper GPS tracking app, DoubleTwist music player and Flesky Keyboard. Te device is priced at 89 Euros (approx. Rs. 7,589).

All these smartphones are expected to get released in market by April or May.

All these devices will be compelling entries to the mid-range smartphone market. These will surely give other smartphones from Nokia, Samsung, LG or even Sony for that matter, a hard run for their money this year.
