Alcatel One Touch Idol X: 5 Inch Full HD Smartphone with Quad Core CPU, 13MP Camera Goes Official

Initially announced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X is ready to ship globally. At the IFA Berlin tech show, which is officially set to kick off from September 6, Alcatel will confirm the global release date and price information of the phone. Now, Alcatel One Touch Idol X and the Idol Hero are company's main flagship devices which have been official unveiled.

 

As a brand, Alcatel is quite active in Europe and China. In India, Alcatel is promoting selected Android powered devices (One Touch Idol and Idol Ultra). Both phones are premium in nature, but the company is selling the devices at an affordable prices. Earlier in the year, Alcatel also launched One Touch Fire, a smartphone powered by Firefox OS.

At this year's IFA Berlin tech show, Alcatel is leading the fort with five Android-powered smartphones and a tablet device. We had already informed you that the One Touch Idol Mini would be announced in India around mid-October with an estimated price of Rs.10,000.

Also a source close to GizBot has also informed that Alcatel is not planning to announce any tablet device in the Indian market. Talking about the Idol X, Alcatel India is yet to say anything on the pricing and retail availability of the phone.

The Idol X comes with a 5-inch IPS Full HD capacitive touch screen display having resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The touch screen is covered with Dragontrail Glass, making the display scratch less. This very smartphone has edge-to edge screen with "O" bezel. It would be right to call Idol X a Bezel-less phone. The Alcatel One Touch Idol X is insanely thin at 6.9mm and weighs 130 grams. The phone will be made available in sizzling colors too.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol X is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory. The actual user memory will be 5.5 GB for Single SIM version and Dual SIM should have 12.7GB. Moreover, the Single SIM version comes with an option to increase the memory up to 32GB via a microSD card, whereas the dual SIM variant comes with fixed memory. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean comes out of the box with Alcatel's own home baked skin on the top.

There's a 13-mega pixel rear facing camera given with HDR facility, Face detection, Touch focus and Panorama shot burst mode, night mode, timer, and ISO control built-in. Features like Auto Focus and LED Flash comes standard. Also add a 2MP front facing camera with 1080p Full HD recoding. The rear facing camera is also capable of recording videos at Full HD format.

The Idol X comes with a 2,000mAh Li Ion battery. The phone will have two variants: Single SIM and Dual SIM. The device also has gesture features built-in. Other connectivity options includes : 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, a microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP, Noise cancellation , HD Voice, FM Radio with RDS, GPS with A-GPS, and micro SIM, among others.

The Idol X is yet to launched in India, but there are some tough handset waiting to greet the phone. The Chinese handset maker Lenovo has K900, a smartphone having a 5.5-inch Full HD and Intel powered processor. Come September end, when Gionee will formally launch Elife E6 in the Indian market. Another Chinese player ZTE is planning to launch Grand S with similar specs in India.

Samsung (unofficially) has recently reduced the price of Galaxy S4 in India. The phone is retailing for Rs. 34,000. On the other hand, Sony is also selling Xperia Z with 5-inch Full HD display at Rs. 33,000. Stay tuned to GizBot for more updates.
