Android Jelly Bean 4.1: When will Samsung Galaxy S3 Users in India Receive the Update?

Galaxy S3 users all over the world have been eagerly awaiting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update since the time they have heard that Samsung Galaxy S3 users in Poland received their first Jelly Bean update. Later, Samsung confirmed that the update will reach all Samsung Galaxy S3 users across the world by mid-October.

Those who are still unaware, S3 comes with Android version 4.0.4, officially named "Ice Cream Sandwich." Ice Cream Sandwich has a refined user interface, expanded camera capabilities, security features and connectivity. In mid-June 2012, Google unveiled Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean", which employs Google Now, a voice-assistant similar to S Voice, and incorporates other software changes.

Samsung accommodated Jelly Bean in the S3 by making last-minute hardware changes to the phone in some markets. In late September 2012, Jelly Bean updates have begun rolling out to S3s in selected European countries. However, what about those users, who are still waiting for the official updates to arrive including India?

Well, recently on October 17, Samsung announced through a press release that US S3s will be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean "in the coming months". Which automatically confirms that Indian S3 users will also receive the official Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean" update on their devices by the end of this year.

This can be said as going back to May 2012, when Samsung started rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich for the Galaxy Note in the European market, typical US carriers didn"t receive it. The US Samsung Galaxy Note users were introduced to Android ICS in the month of July and following that in August, the Indians Galaxy Note users also received the Android 4.0.4 update.

Hence, following the Samsung update pattern in the past, it can be estimated that Samsung Galaxy S3 users in India will receive the official Android 4.1 update as soon as the users in US will be notified with the upgrade.

Samsung amazed the tech media world when the South Korean giant released its flagship S3 smartphone in May 2012. Samsung Galaxy S3 quickly rose to top and became this years" hottest selling smartphone so far with 30 million units sold worldwide. Some of the selling points of the Galaxy S3 are its massive screen, 4G/LTE support, and NFC capability via S-Beam.
