Apple iPhone 6 Plus Review: Camera
As far as details are concerned, iPhone 6 Plus comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera similar to the camera found on the iPhone 6. Moreover, it offers the same new phase detection feature for faster focusing. Apple calls it 'Focus Pixels,' allowing you to change the light balance anytime.
Another major difference between the iPhone 6 Plus and the 6 is that it includes optical image stabilization. And although this isn't the first phone to offer the OIS support, as there are a number of Android and Nokia phones already in the mix for that, but it still is the first Apple phone to offer the tech.
The camera on the back of the iPhone 6 Plus protrudes slightly from surface of the handset, showing that indeed Apple attempted to make the handset as thin as possible. Apart from that, the lens is guarded with a sapphire glass panel, offering the handset some tough protection.
However, Apple this year is focusing on its camera in terms of video management. With continuous stabilization and autofocus remaining as the newest additions, the camera's slo-motion effect can be regulated between 120fps and 240fps. And as always, the camera app has been kept simple and free of any kind of complications, although that means limited number of options for you to make use of.
Also, at the base of the screen you get a link to the camera roll in one corner, while the other link is for the effects overview. The latter also sports eight different effects while giving you a real time preview of all of them. This includes mono, fade, chrome and noir. In the middle, however, is the large circular shutter button that can be tough to hit owning to the size of the handset.
Optical image stabilization also improves the video capture on the iPhone 6 Plus. For the record, it smooths some of the movements that might occur when making videos on the move, but don't expect too much.
Also, the phone's software stabilization does a decent job of keeping video from colliding too much and you'll be quite happy with shooting video on it. The iPhone 6 Plus's OIS comes into contention as it helps eliminate these movements even more.
