CES 2014: Asus ZenFone Smartphones, Windows Tablet, Hybrid Laptop and More Launched

    In the same line of launching spree that is going on at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2014 in Las Vegas, Asus has also announced its series of devices to take on the tech rivals ranging from smartphones to tablets and laptop.

    Precisely, the Taiwanese tech firm announced the tablet named VivoTab Note 8 and smartphone range under ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, ZenFone 6 and the hybrid PadFone mini. Apart from these the company has also announced their latest Transformer Book Duet laptop along with the 27 inch ROG Swift PG278Q monitor which the company says is meant for gamers.


    Lets take a look at the striking features of the launched devices in the slideshow below:

    Asus VivoTab Note 8

    VivoTab Note 8 comes packed with an 8-inch HD (1280 x 800) IPS multi-touch display. The device comes with an Integrated Professional Wacom Digitizer Stylus.

    It is powered by a 1.8 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Bay Trail-T Z3740 quad-core processor with Intel HD Graphics coupled with 2GB of RAM and runs on Window 8.1 OS. The tablet also sports a 5MP rear camera and HD front-facing shooter. It houses up to 64GB internal storage which can also be expanded with microSD card of up to 64GB.

    It is 10.95mm and weighs 380 grams. It has SonicMaster audio technology and has rear-facing stereo speakers for an enhanced audio experience. The company says that the 15.5Whr battery would give up to 8 hours of life to the tablet.

    Along with the tablet, Asus is also bundling an unlimited Asus WebStorage for a year. The Asus VivoTab Note 8 is priced at $299 and is expected to be available in late Q1 or early Q2, 2014.




    Asus also announced PadFone mini at its CES 2014 press conference. It is priced at $249. PadFone mini comes with a 4-inch (800 x 480) display and the smartphone can dock seamlessly with 7-inch tablet that comfortably fits one hand.

    It is powered by a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology that enables two threads per core, 8GB of internal storage, and up to 64GB micro SD card support. The PadFone mini has all the power and resources needed for both phone and tablet apps. It even supports dual SIM. The device runs on Asus' new ZenUI layered on top with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS. The PadFone mini comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and is powered by a massive 3270mAh battery.



    The Transformer Book Duet (TD 300) is a 13-inch Full HD touchscreen laptop which has created an innovation to transform consumers' expectations by creating the world's first quad-mode laptop and tablet convertible, with Instant Switch technology that allows users to switch between Windows and Android in either laptop or tablet modes in just four seconds. And all this, with just a single push of a button or a virtual key on the tablet.

    The hybrid device is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor and the Transformer Book Duet runs up to twice as fast as existing tablets with ARM processors. With ASUS SonicMaster technology built in and dual speakers on both sides of the tablet, Transformer Book Duet delivers incredible audio for impressive entertainment.




    The ZenFone 4 comes with a 4 inch display with WVGA resolution and is powered by the Intel Atom Z2520 processor with Intel Hyper-Threading Technology . It also features a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and weighs just 115g. The device will be launched in 4 color variants viz. Charcoal Black, Pearl White, Cherry Red, Sky Blue, Solar Yellow. The smallest in the series, ZenFone 4 is priced just at $99 which will be fighting all the budget smart phones available in the market.


    The ZenFone 5 sports a 5-inch 720p IPS display and measures just 5.5mm thin at its thinnest point. The display features a digitizer that allows one to use any pen or stylus and also allows the user to use the device with gloves-on. The device is powered by 2 GHz Intel Z2580. The device sports an 8 Megapixel rear camera with BSI sensor and f2.0 aperture. The "PixelMaster" feature is also included in the camera which comes with Image stabilization. Thus there wouldn't be any hassle when it comes to shooting in low-light. Also add a 2 MP front facing shooter. The ZenFone 5 is also available in four color variants viz. Charcoal Black, Pearl White, Cherry Red, and Champagne Gold.

    No word on pricing as of now.



    The ZenFone 6 comes with a 6 inches 720p HD screen, with the same PenTouch and GloveTouch technologies that one can see on the ZenFone 5. It is also powered by the same Intel Z2580 chip running at 2 GHz. Like ZenFone 5, the ZenFone 6 display features GloveTouch and PenTouch technologies. ZenFone 6 also includes a 13-megapixel PixelMaster main camera also based on the PixelMaster technology for better low light shots and also has a similar 2 Megapixel front facing camera. Also add SonicMaster audio technology which enhances the music experience.

    This model also comes in Charcoal Black, Pearl White, Cherry Red, and Champagne Gold variant.

    All these phones also come with the new ZenUI layered over top of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS. Also bundled inside is the Omlet Chat app which is yet another Whatsapp me-too trying to take on the instant messaging space.



    The ROG Swift PG278Q is a 27-inch gaming monitor which the company claims to be the fastest in the world to support NVIDIA G-SYNC technology for stunning smoothness, and crisp 2560×1440-pixel (WQHD) resolution visuals.
