How Dual-Camera Setup Works in Smartphones
Smartphone cameras have come a long way. From capturing those simple moments in your daily life to recording breathtaking 4K videos, they can do it all nowadays.

Only to take the camera's capabilities to the next level many smartphone manufacturers are opting for a dual-camera setup. Even Apple has joined the bandwagon with a dual-camera setup on its more premium iPhone 7 Plus.
Among many others, LG G5, LG V20, Huawei P9, Qiku Q Terra, and Lenovo Vibe S1 are a few smartphones that have been recently launched with this setup.
So why is the dual-camera setup a big deal? Will it be a game changer? Let's find out.
What is Dual-camera setup?
Dual-camera setup on a smartphone can offer a myriad of functionalities. Usually, in this kind of setup, most of the phones don't come with the same lenses for both the cameras (by no means it implies that they can't come with same lenses). Therefore, the functionality of this setup may vary depending upon what vendor chooses to offer. The following are a few possibilities a dual-lens setup can cater.
How it Works?
The primary camera sensor can be used to capture the main image while the secondary sensor provides additional details like sharpness and clarity. Eventually, both these images are stitched together by using different algorithms to create a better picture comparatively.
Delivers good results
Huawei P9 falls under this category. Its primary camera captures the usual RGB image whereas the secondary camera captures a monochrome image with more sharpness and clarity thereby delivering impressive results.
Gives a Wide Angle Effect
A secondary sensor can be used to provide a wide-angle camera with the primary camera offering the same functionality as any other camera. This way you can switch to wide-angle camera whenever you want to capture beautiful landscapes or astounding views and make do with the primary camera to capture other moments. You can see this kind of setup in the recently launched LG G5.
Functionalities of both
The primary camera can be used to capture an image (like any other camera would do) while the secondary camera is used to provide additional depth, reduce noise, and capture better images in low lighting conditions.
The possibilities are endless and soon dual-camera setup is going to be a norm for smartphones. What do you think about this technology? Let us know in the comments section below!
