Lenovo has announced the next generation K series smartphone- K6 power in the Indian market at a price of Rs. 9,999. The budget smartphone is Lenovo's take on Xiaomi's Redmi series of handsets- Redmi 3S Prime and Redmi Note 3 that are also priced under Rs. 10,000 and considered as the most popular sub Rs. 10,000 handsets in the country.

Lenovo during the launch event talked about company's focus on innovation and usability, rather than just specifications and hardware that powers up the smartphones. And to ensure the best-in-class smartphone user experience in sub Rs. 10,000 price-point, the company claims that Lenovo K6 Power is tailored to excel in audio, display, security, battery, and other aspects.

We were present at the launch event and tried our hands on the latest budget smartphone- the K6 Power to find out how Lenovo plans to win the most competitive price segment (Sub Rs. 10,000) in the Indian market. Here's our first impressions of the smartphone.

Battery is the highlight feature of the smartphone

As the name suggests, the highlight feature of Lenovo K6 Power is definitely its large 4,000 mAh non-removable battery unit. Lenovo claims that in ideal network conditions, the battery offers 96.5 hours of music playback, 13.6 hours of video playback, 48 hours of voice calls, 12.6 hours of web surfing and an amazing 27 days of standby time.

These claims do sound impressive and we will put them to evaluation in our detailed review of Lenovo K6 power in the coming month.

However, it is worth mentioning that Lenovo K6 power might lose the war to Xiaomi Redmi 3s Prime in terms of battery backup, because Xiaomi is offering a bigger 4,100 mAh battery unit that has to power up a 5-inch HD display, whereas Lenovo K6 Power's 4,000 mAh battery has to support a 5-inch Full HD display. The extra pixels per inch can take a toll on battery backup in everyday usage.

5-inch Full HD Display

This brings us to the next feature of Lenovo K6 power, i.e. its 5-inch Full High-Definition display offering 1080p resolution. Compared to another sub Rs. 10,000 smartphones, Lenovo K6 Power has an advantage here as the good pixel density of 441ppi makes everything looks crisp and crystal clear. During whatever time we spent with the handset, the display seemed pretty impressive. The screen has 178 degree wide viewing angles, has good level of brightness (450 NITs) and touch response is also superb.

Lenovo hasn't mentioned anything about the protective layer on the screen. We will update the space as soon as we get the information.

Xiaomi Redmi series inspired Unibody Metal Design

We don't have much to talk about the look and feel of the handset because there's nothing new in the design department.

While Lenovo K6 Power has a much appreciated premium unibody metal design, it resembles the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 to an extent that if you hide the Lenovo logo on the rear panel, you won't be able to tell the difference between the two handsets. What differentiates the two smartphones is the fact that Lenovo K6 Power has dual speaker units at the rear side, whereas Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has a mono speaker unit.

Other than this, Lenovo K6 Power feels quite compact and well balanced in hands. The smartphone will be available in Dark Grey, Gold and Silver variants.

Lenovo K6 Power also features Dolby Atmos sound that will enhance the smartphone usage experience while watching full HD videos and playing HD games. The virtualized 360° surround sound impact delivered by Dolby Atmos in combination with Full HD display gives Lenovo K6 Power an edge over similarly priced smartphones.

13MP rear camera and 8MP Selfie camera

The 13 MP rear camera of Lenovo K6 Power is powered by Sony IMX258 Exmor RS sensor. We captured some shots and found the results satisfactory. The camera is equipped with 'Phase detection Auto Focus', quickly locks the subject and wastes no time in taking a shot.

The 13MP rear camera also allows you capture full HD, slow motion and time-lapse videos. Besides, it also has a pro-mode to experiment with the images you capture.

The 8MP wide angle front camera is also capable of delivering satisfactory results.
