OnePlus 3 and 3T now supports Face unlock and VoLTE on Airtel network
The new Oreo-based OxygenOS Open Beta updates bring several new features to your old OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T devices, such as face unlock, VoLTE on Airtel, OnePlus Switch, new launcher and more
OnePlus has just improved the performance and overall feature set of your old OnePlus 3 and 3T devices. The Chinese smartphone maker has rolled out OxygenOS Open Beta 30 for the OnePlus 3 and 21 for the OnePlus 3T that brings a host of new features to the old devices. The most noteworthy features are- Face Unlock, VoLTE (Airtel, India), new Launcher, OnePlus Switch, etc.
Not as stable as Final OTA updates
It is worth mentioning that these are beta softwares and not the final software upgrades. These builds are sometime not as stable as the official OTAs generally are. OnePlus on its forum has also stated, ‘By installing this update, you accept the potential risks'.
Noteworthy new features
The OnePlus forum page has also mentioned the changelog that gives a brief of all the new features coming to your old OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T devices. Have a look.
Support for Airtel VoLTE in India
Face Unlock function added
Added OnePlus Switch application for backup & restore
Other bug fixes and optimizations
Launcher Updated to v2.3
Here are some more details about the new features that are landing to your OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T

Auto folder tagging: When you add applications that are similar, our system will help you automatically name the new folder you created
Dynamic Icon for Clock: The Clock icon is now dynamic
Notification dot optimization: The Blue notification dots present to notify you of a newly installed app will now be removed automatically after 15 days
Launcher usage tips improved: We've added some new helpful tips for first use of the launcher
Important note for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users
OnePlus has also mentioned some steps to experience the new features on OnePlus 3 and OnePlu 3T devices. Follow these steps to make the most out of your OnePlus devices without breaking them.
If you have already flashed an Open Beta (you are currently running the latest Open Beta) you will receive this new build as an OTA.
If you ARE NOT running open beta software and would like to, please refer to the flashing instructions and the full ROM found in the downloads page here: http://downloads.oneplus.net/
Once you migrate to the Beta path, you will continue to receive Open Beta OTAs. You will NO LONGER receive the regular Official Stable OTAs.
Moving back to the Official OTA path from the Beta path will require a full install and clean flash (FULL WIPE of all data and cache)
Don't miss on these...
Besides, OnePlus also mentioned that the Airtel VoLTE feature may not work (have coverage) in some areas and some third party camera applications may not fully work with this update. We expect OnePlus to address these issues in the final update that can come anytime soon. Stay tuned on Gizbot for more updates.
