Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime clears certification: 10 Features You must Know
After a period of dormancy in the market, upstart Chinese company Xiaomi has started to make a move with the launch of several new smartphones which attempt to make a mark in the industry. Well, the Xiaomi Mi5 launched at the MWC 2016 was one of the them, and the same can be told for the Redmi Note 3 which was announced in India a week back at highly competitive price of just Rs 9,999.

Now a new device has emerged while clearing TENAA certification in China and by the looks of its smartphone is resembles the budget Redmi 3, albeit with an added Fingerprint sensor on the rear. Some tipsters are referring to the smartphone as the Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime, a name which is quite probable considering Xiaomi's previous naming schemes. Here's a rumour roundup of all that is know so far.
Display carried forward from the Redmi 3
Just like the original Redmi 3 which was launched in China a month back, the alleged device features a 5 inch HD (1280x720p) IPS display. As usual the display is expected to have punchy colours with good colour reproduction.
Powered by the Dragon
The Xiaomi Redmi 3 packs an octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 chip on the inside which consists of two clusters of Cortex A53 cores (four each) - one clocked at 1.2GHz and the other at 1.5GHz. This is coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU. Just for the sake of comparison the Redmi 2 Prime available in India sports a quad core Snapdragon 410 chip under the hood.
RAM remains the same
This bit is quite surprising and fails to justify the 'Prime' tag which some tipsters are assigning it with it. For those unware the Redmi 2 Prime came with an extra gig of RAM, however it seems that the same mayn't be true for the Redmi 3 Prime. Apart from that the alleged Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime comes with 16GB of internal storage along with room a for memory expansion via MicroSD card.
13MP Rear Camera with PDAF sensor
The rear camera module appears to be carried over from the original Redmi 3. The leaked Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime boasts of a 13MP f/2.0 rear camera equipped with PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) and LED Flash. Besides that, the alleged smartphone which clear TENAA a few days back sports a 5MP f/2.2 unit on the front. It's worth noting that both cameras are capable of shooting Full HD (1080p) videos.
Packs a Fingerprint Sensor on the rear
Unlike the Xiaomi Mi5, which boasts of a Fingerprint Sensor on the front just below the display, the module is place on the rear. Apparently the placement is very similar to the one seen in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
Now with a Smaller Battery
Incidentally the variant which cleared TENAA certification a few day packs a markedly smaller 3000mAh battery. This is about 1000mAh lower than the one seen in the base variant of the Redmi 3.
But still weighs the same
Despite packing in smaller battery the Redmi 3 Prime weighs up at 143g as per the TENAA listing. Surprisingly it is same the base variant of the Redmi 3. The listed dimension of the smartphone are similar too at 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5mm.
Hybrid Dual SIM slot
As it is targeted at the budget market, the Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime sports a Hybrid SIM slot. Apparently a Hybrid SIM slot allows you to hot swap between your secondary SIM and a MicroSD card slot. The Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime supports one Micro and one Nano SIM cards.
MIUI 7 on top of Android Lollipop
While the Xiaomi Mi5 launched a few weeks back runs on Android Marshmallow, it is highly unlikely that the Redmi 3 Prime will come with the same version of Android. So far it seems that the Redmi 3 Prime will come with MIUI 7 on top of Android Lollipop 5.1.
To be priced slightly higher
As per rumours the Xiaomi Redmi 3 Prime will be priced at 799 Yuan when it launches in China in a few weeks' time. This roughly translates to Rs 7,999 in the India market. Just to recall the Xiaomi Redmi 3 is priced at 699 Yuan (Rs 6,999 approx.)
